I have been on 7 cups for a month now, become a verified listener and my life has changed. It is such an amazing community to be part of, mentors are so helpful and is the perfect place to volunteer if you are looking at getting into counselling. I was amazed by how much training is offered in full depth- truly wonderful to be a part of! :)

I am a verified volunteer Listener on 7Cups. I have learned SO MUCH about active listening skills. It's a wonderful experience for me. The Hosts, Mods and fellow Listeners give so much and are such wonderful, caring people!! I am so grateful that I found this site, just wish that I had found it sooner <3

Joining the 7 Cups family changed my life and with each life I had impacted, always told a story that left a lasting impression on my heart. I want to thank the amazing team at 7 Cups for all the good work that they are doing for our community. You guys are all awesome.

I've interacted with several of the listeners and did the training to be a listener. The first thing you need to know about this site is that it mandates only reflective listening. This is an approach where a person talks to a listener who encourages them to solve their own problems and is very supportive and encouraging. On the surface, this sounds good but the reality is that it often fails in practice. They do this because they don't consider lay listeners qualified to counsel others, so all they can do is play a supportive role. At least that was what I thought was going on at first but then I saw counselors who said they don't believe in giving advice and the red flags went up. A counselor needs to assess and spot mental health problems and advise what to do. If any counselor said I do not give advice I would immediately leave that office. However, while I do believe teaching reflective listening is a good idea, mandating it is stifling for listeners who actually could brainstorm with the person to help them understand and possibly solve their problems. It belittles the listener to put those handcuffs on them, is often inappropriate and ineffective for the member and it creates a toxic environment for people to be in. You have a bunch of people venting while the listeners offer supportive comments. I could get an AI to do that, why even have a person there? Even worse, the moderators enforce this code so if you challenge their beliefs, probe someone for more information, and offer help you are warned and then kicked off the service. This is how cults operate with groupthink, enforcing dogma and demonizing perceived enemies. For your own mental health's sake stay far away from this site.

7 cups is an amazing wonderful place! I am so glad I get to be a listener there and be able to impact and work along side some amazing poeple!

7Cups is really an amazing site with such a wide community of people. I have been a listener on 7Cups for several years now and it has been a truely rewarding and amazing experience. Everyone is so lovely and the support and tight-knit community (which is mixed listeners and members) is so strong.

I encounrered a poorly trained listener whose idea of "compassion" was to spout out accusations instead of asking what I did something and why - they'd already preemptively jumped to a judgment, went on an attack, and tried to make everything I said fit that narrative they created in their head. "Let's be real, you did [thing] to do [goal]." Stuff like that.

This app has helped me so many times and still is. I amso happy to be giving back too
