It’s just okay
Went to try it out but instead of listening to mm problem the listener immediately tried to sell me on his coaching without even trying to build a connection with me first. Turned me off completely

I really wanted to give just one star, but I rated 7 Cups two stars because even though I am really disappointed with them, I did get a little experience supporting people. However, I don't think my information is safe on this site. A user entered a chat, and though everything is anonymous, the person knew personal details about me. I am still anxious about the experience. It was really unnerving. I engaged with listener support, but that only made things worse because the help I got came off as dismissive or indifferent. There was no compassion. After reading a couple of reviews that said 7 Cups steal therapists' information, my distrust of the platform has increased. My encounter with a user who had intimate information about me and claims that they have stolen other's online information really makes me question their ethics and whether they would (intentionally) leak volunteers' data. Because of these concerns and for other reasons, I am going to delete my account and stop volunteering with 7 Cups.

7 Cups is no longer reliable for LGBTQ+/MOGII persons, as the platform discontinued their 24/7 chatroom support, no longer include/mention LGBTQ+/MOGII (option) in their surveys/feedback(options). There is no option of 'Other' in GR, surveys, feedback. EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) is 'tailored' now, to what the platform will accept (USA-based, faith(ish) - not directly stated within form h bio..). So, fellow LGBTQ+/MOGII people - tread VERY carefully, when visiting this site. L *PS. Although the date says Sept30/24, ot id only because it was the only wsy to be able to post. I picked tbid date, as it was tbe time I resd/ecperienced 'things' changing at 7 Cups. Since then........6

I’m a member, not a listener. I've been using 7 Cups on and off for a while now, and I've met some good listeners who are attentive, bold, unbiased, caring, and understanding. But honestly, most of my experiences with 7 Cups have been terrible. I once met a weird listener who claimed he was a psychologist but had no intention of listening to my issues. Instead, he wanted me to look at a picture of a stranger (a lady) who he claimed was his wife. He wanted me to look into her eyes and describe my feelings... like, what? What feelings? Are you kidding me? Some listeners just seem focused on getting good reviews, and some listeners just keep saying, "You only have five minutes left." Come on, I'm not here to talk to a clock! The worst experience was actually today, this morning. I’ve been feeling pretty upset due to some friendship issues, so I decided to talk to a listener whose profile had a few good reviews. After I shared my story, I don't know if she was projecting or just lashing out her own frustration, but she said, "This is not a friendship. You are nothing to her. You understand?" Seriously? How did she even become a listener? Her response was absolutely disrespectful. And at the end, she wanted me to leave a review on her. Like, really?! But she did receive a negative review from me.

A new user that's been confused by all the positive reviews of this site when all I experienced was the same stuff the negative reviews say goes on there. Could never manage to connect with anyone that didn't act like a marketing bot or a sexual predator. Lots of gaslighting (everyone is fine here - you're the one with a problem, you need to pay for therapy here) and alienation. Got told repeatedly that people weren't qualified enough to listen to me talk about a verbal dispute I had with someone else. Yeah, the kind of stuff that you normally talk to your friends about apparently requires paid help here, even if you've already got paid help! The only useful thing I've found here so far has been the exercises. I will not be chatting with anyone on the site again, though. It does not feel the SLIGHTEST bit safe. For comparison sake: Facebook & Twitter feels safer than this site does. I don't care if 7Cups suspends my account for this review because I'm not going to pay for this crap anyway, and I've already got a lot of much better resources. I'm a cult survivor, BTW. I know dangerous/manipulative communication practices when I see them happening. The people on this site gaslit me like crazy... trying to convince me that I was the one that was all messed up and needed help... that I was the one that couldn't communicate effectively. I majored in communications & IT, have spent a good portion of my career in communication-heavy roles, including being a writer. I'm sorry, but if your FREE support community cannot support a basic supportive conversation on the first few tries, then you really should be re-evaluating your PAID business model. Searching for a listener should not be like searching for a needle in a haystack. I'm certainly not going to PAY for it, on top of that. The site doesn't really do anything to reassure you the support will get better after paying, either. The only thing they promise is access to a tele-counselor. There's like a million REAL tele-provider sites that accept insurance and cost the same amount... but they are actually PROFESSIONAL and SAFE. There are also lots of free online support groups where you can talk to people and they REALLY listen to you. Overall, this site just feels like a very well-concocted profit scheme.
