I appreciate this app because it allows me to connect and support those around me. I understand the paths and the listeners who openly want to help us on the app. This is a nice app if you need support but can't talk to anyone at home about it. I can't wait for more updates and they have a lot of things to explore on their site. I will say that sometimes it can be hard to navigate to where you need to go at times. But I appreciate those online who can help you out. If you want to help others this a nice place to start. You can interact with their training and get informed. Additionally, I would like to add that this app would benefit from some more supervision. Sometimes, listeners or members may not adequately understand the boundaries and professional side of communicating. This can lead to misunderstandings, and it would be beneficial if the conversation were examined more carefully to point out errors, opportunities for growth, and inappropriate behavior.

OVERALL: Trainings are not required of the Listeners, it's optional. You could have a severely undertrained Listener or a Listener better than the therapists there. Anyone can become a Listener- good ones are in short demand. As a Listener, I'm so appreciative of the resources we have at hand- there are several programs you can go through and learn about different professional paths, and there are so many training courses you can have the opportunity to go through. I have a lot of long-term Members that I chat with, and who express satisfaction upon finding me. However, the few times I came as a Member to see it from the other side, it was subpar. Using the general chat pool/Chat Live Now feature matches you with a random Listener. It's so important to recognize that ANYONE can become a Listener and some people have very bad motives. Ignoring me, trying to sext, pushing agendas, etc.- and it was genuinely hard to navigate. No wonder Members are over the moon the second they get a normal person as a Listener- You can browse for Listeners, but even us verified ones can be a mixed bag. Some just want the number of chats to go up, and some genuinely want to help. It's near impossible to tell from a distance.

As a trained listener, I found that many members had complex issues that no trained listener would have the skills to manage. Contacts are difficult to maintain, with many members dropping off in the middle of a chat. Once in a while, it can be a supportive, mutually engaged chat. But these experiences are few and far between. Listeners are trained in reflective listening, which often is simply parroting back and rephrasing member concerns. This is not a satisfying approach for many members in need. A mixed bag, largely dependent on luck.

When you log into 7 Cups and click "chat now" you'll be contacted by a completely random volunteer. This is not normally a good thing, because they might be untrained or even not have good intentions. A better bet is to use their Browse Listeners feature to find a listener according to your personal preferences.

This is a decent mental health option for people who would like to vent. I think that it’s a special platform for those who are genuinely interested in being compassionate listeners. I do not recommend this app to those experiencing a crisis. 7 Cups is a volunteer based service. Although they do have a therapy program that is a paid service. I have never used that so I can only speak on the service I’ve used. As a listener and member there. My experience as a listener is a 5/5 I absolutely love that I am able to earn badges and take courses that are 100% free. As a member it can be daunting to find a listener who is understanding. But after some digging you could possibly find a listener that understands. I’ll rate my experience as a member a 2/5. Overall I would recommend this from a mental health advocate standpoint for those who are interested in pursuing a career in counseling and would like to volunteer to gain experience, knowledge and learn listening skills.

Some good listeners, some terrible people with wrong intentions. Mind you, the listeners just listen and repeat what you said, that's their job. They don't provide personalised help as advice is against rules. Many listeners go out of these boundaries anyway. With regards to group chatrooms, newbies don't get good treatment, one has to behave well and tolerate being ignored for months to actually get along with people. Sometimes you get muted for 24 hours or permanently banned for no reason. You do find some trolls that come in to attack people, steal personal data etc. In one instance, the admins couldn't stop a troll from making hundreds of accounts getting ban, after ban so eventually they let the troll just stay and steal data. So yeah, it's not a perfect site. but good enough.

Some listeners are powertrip. Some members are better than others. It feels like college and high school. There are trolls on 7 cups. Needs better safety net on 7 cups.

Most people say 7 cups was able to help them. I wish it was able to help me too. I guess I really was just a horrible person that even the listener got sick of me. Why should I be surprised. The people I know are sick of hearing it from me, it shouldn't be a wonder that a stranger of 7 cups just let me ramble on and asked me "what's the worst that could happen", "what the best that could happen" "is it perfectionist thoughts" and "why are you scared" > oh yes. I feel much better and understood. I wonder why other people seemed to have gotten so uplifted. I don't know what I expected. But I wish the listener i got could've shown a little more empathy or at least pretended that they cared.
