Terrible Customer Service
My system has not been working since March 2022 (maybe even earlier - that’s when we first noticed). SunPower sent a tech out twice and said we need a new inverter. Have not heard *anything* from them since May and now we’ve collected NO sun/power through all of summer. Of course I continue to pay the monthly payments and my true-up with my power company will be astronomical! Tried to call them last week and was on hold for 2 hours and 40 min (no joke) before giving up; no replies on email either. Everything was going well until this problem started. Just super frustrated with their customer service.

No monitoring for over 2…
I've not had any monitoring for over 2 months now. Love the system, but SunPower dot com has fallen really short of expectations.

Horrible installation experience with Sunpower
I have had an extremely disappointing experience with Sunpower. My first disappointment is that in the buying experience they do not provide any breakdown of the charges. However my nightmare started with the installation of the panels. First the installation did not pass the city test in one attempt. Then right after the installation passed the city inspection 7/12 panels did not work. Even though I reported this issue 2 days after installation, neither the support ticket has an update nor the team assigned to me have been able to resolve the issue. The company sends no updates on what they are doing. I have followed up multiple times but they would not bother to answer what they are doing and when they plan to find the root cause and fix the issue. We experienced one of the hottest days and this month our bill is way more than normal while the system we chose should cover the entire bill. I still have the remaining balance to pay but Sunpower cannot bother to fix the panels. I am very skeptical on what kind of service I will receive going forward. Their product quality and installation quality is doubtful and their service is horrible. The worst experience I have had with any service in the recent years. Nothing can make them take action.

My solar panels have stopped generating…
My solar panels have stopped generating power since August 23rd. I only noticed this when I happened to check my generation reports and saw nothing reported and then went out to look at the outside control panel and saw an "arc detected" warning and no generation for weeks. I managed to wait out the customer service line and was given a case number. Now I am told that they "will continue to monitor the progress" and will get back to me within 5 to 10 business days. Meanwhile, I have paid PG&E for power through an historic heat wave, and have no idea how potentially dangerous the problem indicated on my control panel might be. Not good enough.

I originally purchased approx 24 panels…Do NOT purchase SUNPOWER
I originally purchased approx 16 panels and was informed that a battery backup would be available later. At the time of the original install I informed Sun Power that their calculations were wrong. They disregarded my information. After my first year true up bill arrived they decided that I could use an additional 24 panels. Battery back up has yet to be achieved! After waiting on a "estimated 20 minute" call on hold which has now turned out to be 1 hour and 47 minutes I have decided to write this well worth it review. Tell customers to go elsewhere. Customer service is a name for nothing to get done! I have spent more than 80K and still do not have what I originally requested. When I tried to seek service elsewhere, I was informed that it would void my SunPower Solar warranty. What good is the warranty when you can't get service?

Service
Service? No thank you!
Like many on this site, it works great ... until it doesn't. I have had these panels on my roof in Sunny AZ for 8 or so years. Performed very well.
About a month ago, they stopped generating power and I only find out because of a high electricity bill. Calling customer service is non-starter: been on hold for over an hour this time (still waiting as I write this review). When I asked why the monitoring agreement didn't catch this, I was told it was my responsibility to monitor... but the app was busted... but.... Sheeesh.
First time I called, reset the system... we will email you in 24 hours. who's hours? Venus's?
Second time I called, a service ticket was created. So I had an email to reply to... after 5 days I started asking when I would get a service appointment...
Now that I read these reviews, I find that its not an uncommon event. So sad.
Still on hold.
Since I have added this review, I have received many promises of action. Still no action, or any suggestion of actual action. No power from my panels... still buying lots of overpriced power from the local company.
I should add, that power monitoring has been down (from my house) since April... that didn't trigger any kind of support. It all seems very unsatisfying.
When will a technician come and check the system? I promise to keep this review updated.
22-sept-2022. I have a specialised case manager "John" who has called me on the day he promised (seems every tuesday) to tell me that I am still waiting to get a technician visit. But that it should happen. Any day now. Not holding my breath. Dont use this company.
30-Sept-2022. Well, "John" missed his call on Tuesday. I left a message with him on Wednesday. And yesterday. And today. Could it be that he is avoiding me? Surely not! Or he has such a heavy case load of customers with non-functional solar panels, that its hard to service them all. Or Sunpower don't have enough resources available to meet their service requirements. Still not holding my breath, but this weekend I will be reviewing my contract with my lawyer.
04 Oct 22 - I now have a service appointment for 7 Oct. Took too much pestering yesterday to get that far.
09 Oct 22 - Technicians arrived as promised and were very cordial. When I asked how long the repair would take, the answer was not appealing. The inverter is bad. The repair procedure is to take pictures of the unit (done), send to Sunpower (done), who will review them and send to the inverter manufacturer (ABB in my case), who will approve the replacement, send the replacement to Sunpower who will then finally schedule installation. When I asked how long that process would take… “a couple of months”. :(
22 Oct 22: John has not been in contact, I called and left a message. Amanda sent me an email, saying that she was now in charge of my care. If i have any questions, just email. So I did a few days ago. It was a simple question regarding the ETA for the required parts and the status of the repair process. I guess with Sunpower its okay to ask questions whenever you want… don't expect an answer. “We don't know yet” is an answer - didn't even get that. *sigh*
9 November 2022 Sadly, Its November inverter is still down. Sunpower are waiting for parts. I am really surprised there is no stock for servicing lease agreements. Poor planning, especially during these times. I cant help but wonder if that means no new installs have taken place… Im sure that us not the case, can I have one of those inverters? No… still paying my lease. Any lawyers reading this who have dome heart and want to help…. please get in touch.
21 November 2023 - My inverter was replaced today. Took a couple of hours and the techs noticed that my old 'data monitor' needed upgraded, so that will happen. Sunpower quickly sent an appointment for that (Dec 15). Hopefully on that day the system will be fully working again.
Shortly after I recevied an email telling me that I had been "upgrade to the latest technology" (I hadn't... my 8 year old inverter was replaced with a new 8 year old inverter, ie same technology). I also got a customer satisfaction review. I filled it in.
I am definitely not satisfied. In the four months it took to fix, I paid 4 months of lease payments and have a large power company balance to pay (I was on the averrage monthly billing).
Both times the service techs were friendly, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. So that was good.

SunPower 2 years ago
SunPower 2 years ago, proposed 18 panels that would power my energy use equivalent to my energy provider PG&E.
So far that has worked and my energy use has been powered by the 18 panels and transferred all energy from PG&E to the SunPower panels
