Love our Coop
We are really enjoying our new coop. It was pretty easy to put together especially thanks to Urban Coop's kits that include everything even the drill bits needed! Our chickens are very happy with their new home.

Cute coop, easy to put together. However not at all predator proof, we will have to do quite a bit of modifying before we would feel safe putting anyone in overnight. I guess for someone living in a city with backyard chickens it might be ok as is, but even still a dog could dig under it in about 5 minutes (it has no bottom) A large dog or other predator (coyote, bear) could push it over easily and since it has no bottom to speak of it leaves birds unprotected from this as well. Well made and looks great, just not practical out in the country.

Hi Amy, I think you're right. We live in the country too, but our ground is not very diggable. Our coops are sold all over the country and get installed on a variety of soils and bases. Digging protection is not one size fits all and we also recommend chickens living directly on soil. So as such, our coops don't have floors. Never have. We're careful to never make it even sound that way. We pretty clearly state in our instructions that if you have a digger vulnerability, you'd need to do something. We have a lot of experience and feedback and if you'd like help figuring out the best thing for your area please contact us.
This is a very good coop. Very nice. Very well built. Our girls love it.

I purchased the tractor for four chickens. I asked some questions about the birds and they responded with some advice which helped me. What was not accurate information was how long can the coop stay in one place in your yard. I have to move it every day with 4 birds because they dig holes. Then the construction. All you have is the photo of it on their web site. It looks much larger like 25% bigger in the photo. The finish of the pictured unit is smooth and stained and the boards fit snugly together on the side door vents. Mine is very rough unstained wood and the gaps in the boards exceed 1/4" between them. I was told they would swell up and seal. I live in the Northwest and it had been rained on for several days before I called. Of course after many months the gaps are unchanged and one is splitting and warping. I'll probably do some kydex or clear polycarb mods to it before winter.

Hi Chris. Please contact us. We build out of natural rough cedar and from batch to batch the materials can be quite varied. If you want a replacement coop or particular parts that looks more to your satisfaction... please call (Montie 877-741-2667 x 1102). We say as much in our warranty and instructions and definately will back it up.
First, let me say that we love this coop and the chickens love this coop. I'd buy this again and have 0 regrets about the purchase. I enjoyed working with the Urban team and appreciated their customer service. What we like: It's extremely well built using quality materials. It's extremely sturdy and will last for years. The layout is also nice, well thought out, and it's easy to maintain and clean. The chickens love it. Cleaning is very simple and the feeders are big enough to last a long weekend away. What you should know: We chose the at home assembly and the directions leave a lot to be desired. It took two adults, 10 beers, and about 4 full hours to build. You will be frustrated, you will build and unbuild and rebuild, be patient. It's also not squirrel proof. The feeder is made of PVC and is exposed to the general outdoors. It only took the squirrels a few hours to chew through the PVC and have themselves a feast. Quick fix - A trip to Lowes, some locking hooks and some chicken wire around it solved the issue (for now). The roost is above the ramp, so you get a lot of chicken poop on it and it has to be continually cleaned. There is also no design to support a heating lamp. There is no additional barrier between the chicken wire in the run and the outdoors, so you'll need to be extra careful when weed wacking around it. One false move and you're through the wire. All in all, great coop!

Dyan was so patient and helpful to me while I was making my decision about which coop to buy and when. Now that we have it (and the feeder & waterer too) we can't imagine ever being without it. It's well designed, sturdy and easy to assemble. My hens are happy too!

Folks at Urban Coop Company offer well designed and constructed chicken coops at a fair price. I am fortunate to live near Urban Coop, so when I was researching coops, I called with questions and was invited out to see the different models. Montie Twining, the owner, met with me and discussed my concerns and wish list of features in a coop. He is very knowledgeable and offered good advice. They built and delivered my coop. My six happy hens love their home.

I absolutely love my Round-Top Stand-Up Chicken Coop! I went with this coop because I wanted I make memories with my children taking care of chickens, and I didn’t want all those memories to be cleaning and repairing the coop. It’s a beautifully designed, solid coop, and it is far quicker and easier to clean than any other coop I’ve seen. My 3 year old and 1 year old have mini rakes, and they LOVE raking out the coop every day... it takes one minute (no gloves needed!) and our coop is clean. I’m very glad that I went with all the upgrades - the XL coop, the feeder and water, and the storm panels. I live out in the countryside, and it’s extremely windy in the summer. The bottom row - and often the middle row, too - of storm panels are always on to give the hens wind protection. The directions for building the coop were straight forward, the pictures really helpful, and I definitely utilized their assembly hotline and called a few times to make sure I was doing things correctly. I’m a middle-aged, out-of-shape mom, with very little experience using a drill, and it was totally do-able assembling it with someone there for much of it to hold parts together while I drilled. That said, the instructions say it will take a person of average skill 4 hours... I probably spent a cumulative of 4 hours over the course of the two weeks I spent assembling the coop just reading and re-reading the directions ;) If I built the coop again, it would be much quicker, but that first time there are a lot of steps to be paying attention to. It was a fun family project building, though, and I’m glad we didn’t purchase the coop already built, as that is an option. The tool/hardware box that comes with the coop was short of several screws needed to assemble the door, and rather than contact the Urban Coop Company and wait for the screws to ship, I ran to a hardware store and purchased them myself for a few bucks.
