This is the most useful plotting tool I have ever discovered. It allows you you drag and drop your story beats between different subplot strands and label everything exactly how you need to. For example, you can arrange the seven act structure and then write up and drop a bunch of colour coded narratives into each beat. These scenes can be easily shifted around and downloaded as a word document which you can then directly write underneath in order to give your entire novel structure. It’s easy to get used to and visually clean - I love it!

Plottr subwebsite Storysnap.ai
Plottr recently released a daughter website, storysnap.ai
Storysnap reads a manuscript and backwards builds a story bible. This bible works by chapter and lists characters' inconsistencies and plot strengths and holes. My book, a novelized nonfiction account of working abroad in four countries over ten years was about 65, 000 words in 27 chapters.
Storysnap did more or less what it is advertised as doing.
I agreed with some of the plot holes it found and some of the character inconsistencies it found.
But it looked at each chapter in isolation. It had no comment about how well succeeding chapters followed from what came earlier. In the book, I meet a woman get married and seven years later divorced. That experience was both sweet and bittersweet. Storysnap didn't understand that while I was happy at my new singleness, I was disappointed with the divorce. Similarly, storysnap didn't understand feeling excited about a new job in a foreign country and at the same time being nervous about travelling to live in a new country. Certainly cheaper than a human editor, but it won't replace a human.

I've had nothing but issues using the MS Word export function. I get an error message that I need to check my permissions or that there is an insufficient memory or disc space issue. My laptop has 32 RAM and over 600GB in disc space remaining. Plottr is aware of the problem, and their solution is to use Google Docs as a workaround which did not work for me.
This has been going on for several weeks now, and it's frustrating.

I've been using Plottr for over 2 years…
I've been using Plottr for over 2 years now. I got a discount on Lifetime Membership from participation in National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. It's been worth it!
I don't pay a subscription fee month-to-month. I use it to plot out my books and keep track of all my characters.
Plotting
The interface lets you add books of a series, with covers if you have them. I love how easy it is to upload my pictures into the Gallery so I can use them for book covers or character portraits or setting landscape or room picture.
Then, click on a book to see its timeline. You can use a template. Add a timeline for a subplot. Oops, need to add one between two chapters? Or juggle what order events need to come in? Just drag and drop! There's plenty of room to describe the scene. You can also tag them with whatever tagging system you use.
Notes
You can keep long notes and have custom categories for them
Characters
Love that I can upload one picture and have plenty of room for personality profiles. If the one I want to use isn't there, I can add a template and it even has a field for the website I got it from so I can read up when needed. Templates are available for characters, settings and timelines.
Settings
I can upload a picture of this place and describe it to the hilt for future reference, in case I use this one again.
I can also transfer info to other files as well as export to .docx or Scrivener formats, as well as .rtf
Categories and Tags
I can set custom categories for all the sections so they will appear in groups according to category.
Tags are a separate function and I use emotes as symbols in the font I use for the labels. Remember, though, emotes can change when your font has updates and Plottr doesn't control these. I love being able to set up categories for my tag groups as well.
As you can see, this software is highly customizable and includes some standard plotting templates such as Snowflake Method, Save The Cat, PlotDot, and 3 Act. You can add new ones. The template interface is easy to use, so you don't need to know things like HTML or Python, or how to code. It's all in an easy user interface, so you just type in what questions you want to answer and how long you want the answer to be, and you can do multiple-choice, too!
Plottr is great for plotting stories, but it can also be used to plan a marketing strategy or organize household tasks, though I haven't tried that yet.
It has a free trial and subscription options. Their tech support, the few times I've needed that, gets quick answers! They don't spam my email.
If I could give this software 6 stars, I would! I love it!

Greatest plotting and outline tool!
As someone who has a hard time organising my thoughts and ideas, which often diminishes any efforts I make to create a cohesive and linear plot development in my stories, this tool has been incredibly helpful! It helps me visualise and organise specific scenes in chapters, note which characters are present in which location, plus add custom tags and attributes I want to track - all of these really help me track the way my story is supposed to develop and not veer off into unrelated new side plots! And especially aids me remember everything I need about my outline in neat subcategories, which is great for someone like me who has poor memory issues as well! Highly recommend this to both plotters and pantsers, especially those that want to follow a loose outline that allows for creativity but keeps them on track too!

A Must In My Workflow
Plottr is an essential tool in my writing toolbox. I use it writing my novels and with my serialized fiction stories for Kindle Vella. The timeline allows me to view events within my story at a moment's notice. I use the Notes section to help me keep track of story questions I may have later, things to watch for when rewriting, etc.
The characters and places sections are especially helpful for keeping a story bible. Pair it with AI imaging from sites like MidJourney, Dall-e 3, etc, and I can see my worlds brought to life.
What I truly love is the personalization options available to users. I doubt any two people use Plottr the same. I have my own color-coding system to go along with my tags. This allows me to not only organize my stories as I want to see them but also to filter easily.
I have used Plottr since 2020 and haven't regretted spending a single penny on it. It's one of the few monetary investments I've made in writing that I can say that about.

I've been using Plottr for about a year and a half now! I find it is very easy to use and its very useful for compiling information and plotting out a story. There are also many resources on hand to help guide you on how to plot a story, which has helped me to more easily lay down a plot I'm happy with. Definitely recommend!
