This service sounded great when I discovered it. I uploaded my insurance card which is a dual complete Medicare advantage plan. This means that I have active Medicare and Medicaid. This makes me a qualified Medicare beneficiary meaning that if there is anything not covered by my primary insurance plan, the company has to eat the cost. Despite my QMB status, Thriveworks attempted to charge me three times. When I first discovered my provider was out of network, I thought no big deal, I'll just find somebody else. But it turns out nobody was fully in network with my plan and they kept signing me up with providers anyway and charging me a balance. As I mentioned, with my QMB status, it is against federal law to charge a client a balance. I had to threaten reporting them to Medicare in order to get my money back. I am still reporting them to Medicare. They have the tools to see my QMB status and they chose to ignore it and fill me a balance anyway despite this being illegal. As far as the service providers, I saw two of them. The first one, Jodi Miller was fantastic. The second one was not a good fit at all.

Easy to sign up convenient. My insurance has a low co-pay. The two counselors that I have sessions with are absolutely wonderful. They’re guiding me through some current family issues. It’s helped tremendously. I would recommend anyone who’s having difficulties to sign up for therapy.

My appointment was canceled at 5 a.m. on the day I was scheduled to meet with a therapist. When I called to investigate, I learned that the cancellation was related to insurance information. I was able to reinstate the appointment, but was then required to complete the intake paperwork again, without any clear explanation. Throughout my brief experience with Thriveworks, the company repeatedly addressed me by the wrong name, despite my having provided my preferred name on the intake forms. Most recently, I received a $200 bill that once again used the wrong name. These experiences prompted me to investigate the company more closely. I learned that Thriveworks is backed by private equity, which raised additional concerns about its business practices and priorities. The scheduling problems, repetitive paperwork, billing issues, and apparent disconnect between administrative operations and patient information did little to inspire confidence in the quality of care. I am deeply concerned about the growing role of private equity in mental healthcare, particularly the potential for financial priorities to compromise patient experience, continuity of care, and working conditions for providers. Based on my experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere for mental health services.
