For the last two months we have been having outages with no way to reach tech support instead you have to deal with bots. As i write this the client login has been down for more than 6 hours and after restarting my vps my existing password is no longer working and I cannot resolve it as the management portal is not working and the only support is a bot.

They are sad and horrible. I give them two stars because they did host my website and email for many years and it worked most of the time. But some four years ago they lost my website and took weeks to restore an older version and then months to admit they had had a problem. Recently my web builder stopped working and they said it would only again if I paid an expensive upgrade. I moved to namehero which is great and paid a quarter of the price. Hostwinds do have tech support people (and/or ai) trying hard to find solutions (to you I am thankful) but the hostwinds system is rotten to the core. They told me the only way to cancel my renewal was to cancel the account which I did and then they immediately deleted everything without sending me a message saying what they had done or even saying goodbye. The only thing they did not delete on my account was my credit card details and now they say they cannot do that without opening a ticket. I prefer to cancel the credit card because I don't trust their system. I can see other reviewers complain about unauthorized charges and I believe Hostwinds would do that deliberately as part of their sad business model. Goodby hostwinds. I can sleep better without you.

In order to use the latest php version you'll have to upgrade to one of their VPS plans instead. Also, if you choose the Basic plan and want a full backup on your data from their server, then you'll have to open up a support ticket, 'cos they have removed the Backup option in cPanel, so you can't do it yourself. This is not OK for me so I'll change web host instead. Problem solved.

I needed to reinstall my vps several times due to two main problems, no ssh connection and no internet connection. I wasted so much time doing that and I hope for the future that the first installation will be sufficient. thank you,

When I was talking to sales, he promised me to help in installing Glassfish and SSL, they after I bought it, they told me it is out of service scope !! Until this date, I am not able to setup my environment with them, SSL is not working properly ! they are fast, but not that much skilled !

However, when it comes to effectiveness and getting the problem solved... not so great. I gave up switching from our current provider to Hostwinds after a frustrating experience with their VPS and their best shared hosting business plan. Both didn't get set up properly and the cs folks spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure things out, opening a new ticket at every turn. I ended up with over a dozen tickets and no resolution. Gave up.

After I had initialized the (unmanaged) VPS instance, and logged in 3 or 4 times via ssh (without problems), suddenly I got authentication error from ssh, ---- Received disconnect from IP-address port 22:2: Too many authentication failures Disconnected from IP-address port 22 ---- I opened a ticket with support and I felt they were not helpful at all and they demanded that I bought managed support before they would help me. I guessed that some program (e.g. fail2ban) running on the VPS instance was reacting to ssh attacks on the VPS, and banning all connections. I could not verify that, since I could not log in. Support did not comment on that. I reinstalled the VPS instance but that did not help (at least not yesterday) so I shut the VPS down and wanted to try later. I desided to try a last time this morning and reinstalled the server and tried again but initially with the same result as before. But suddenly I got a password prompt and could log in and have no idea what caused that. Since than there have been no problems. I decided to upgrade OS to the latest version (from Fedora 32 to Fedora 36) and that was painless but time consuming. I will now continue to set up the server and will continue to be a Hostwinds customer, given that there are not any further problems of this sort.

Si vous les choisissez, vous allez grave vous prendre la tête… Presque tous les 10 jours mon site est off, pour des raisons complètement louches, un ami qui travail dans le domaine m’a dis en voyant leurs réponses qu’il avait l’impression qu’une bande de stagiaires gérait l’entreprise… Depuis le premier jour j’ai des soucis avec eux.. C’est gonflant à la longue et j’ai toujours peur de me lever un matin et que mon site soit complètement effacé et perdu comme j’ai vu sur un autre avis ici. Je dois tout de même noter qu’ils ont toujours répondu rapidement à mes tickets et toujours trouvés des solutions à mes problèmes. Mais bref, quand je vois les prix qu’ils demandent et tout ça pour n’avoir que des problèmes, c’est largement abusé!! Vous n’imaginez pas combien de tickets j’ai du ouvrir avec comme seule message « my site is down », je n’utilise même plus les formes de politesses dans le mail tellement c’est récurant et habituel.
