We enjoyed 3 nights there for our anniversary. The room was great, and staff set out Champagne and Chocolates for us, which was awesome. It was so quiet and peaceful, we lucked into some great weather and had a blast. We will definitely stay here again.

If I could give this stay 0 stars I would
If I could give this stay 0 stars, I would.
We paid over $600 for two nights in a cabin at Skylaranna, expecting a clean, safe, comfortable “resort” experience. Instead, this was the worst lodging experience we’ve had during our many trips to the NC mountains.
The biggest concern was the spiral staircase to the upstairs bedroom. Screws were missing/loose, railing poles were disconnected, and the entire staircase and railing were unbelievably shaky. We were traveling with a toddler, and avoiding the stairs wasn’t possible—the only actual bed was upstairs while the bathroom was downstairs, so we repeatedly had to carry our toddler, luggage, and belongings up and down them. When we raised the concern, we were essentially told, “the stairs are safe without the railing, so you’re not in danger.”
We were later told maintenance had worked on the staircase, but we saw no noticeable difference afterward. Screws were still missing or loose, railing components were still disconnected, and it remained extremely shaky.
The cabin was also hot and muggy for our entire stay, despite the thermostat being set to 68 and maintenance lowering it further. When we complained, one response was, “We can’t hang meat in these rooms.” Afterward, management insisted the AC was cooling properly and sent a screenshot of an app showing 68° and 64° as proof. I don’t dispute what the app displayed, but it did not reflect how hot and humid the cabin actually felt while we were physically staying in it.
Other problems included a broken ceiling fan, a broken replacement box fan, a bed that was broken underneath, a broken pullout couch, a loose doorway transition that I tripped over, flooring beside the bathtub that appeared deteriorated and was visibly sinking/caving, a sticky substance on the floor, and old soda bottles, cups, and trash underneath the downstairs couch.
The cleanliness issue was especially frustrating because a cleaning fee is charged for the cabin. Management later told me that if I had called when we discovered the trash around 10 p.m., they would have “promptly” sent someone to clean it. By then, we had already contacted staff multiple times and were trying to get our toddler settled for bed. Guests should not have to spend their vacation repeatedly discovering and reporting problems that should have been caught before check-in.
The property itself was also disappointing. The advertised garden/pond/river area we explored was extremely overgrown, with visible trash and piles of materials, and the path toward the river was so overgrown with briars that we couldn’t find reasonable access. Babysitting was also advertised, but when we asked, we learned they had no babysitter on staff and that children must be out of diapers—restrictions that were not clear when we booked.
We also paid for a 2 p.m. late checkout, yet our door code was deactivated around 12:30 p.m. We were locked outside in approximately 85-degree weather and had to call the front desk again to regain access.
After our stay, management said our concerns had been addressed “to the best of their ability” and offered $100 off a future stay. Sending maintenance to look at a problem is not the same as actually fixing it. The staircase remained unstable, the cabin remained hot and muggy, the fan remained broken, and several other issues were never resolved.
We had actually planned to add another night because my husband had Labor Day Monday off. After experiencing the cabin, we decided another night was not worth the money or stress and went home Sunday instead.
I am attaching photos because the number of issues sounds unbelievable even as I write this, and I want others to be able to see the conditions for themselves.
For more than $300 per night, expecting a clean, safe, functional cabin is not unreasonable. Unfortunately, based on the condition of our cabin, the broken amenities, cleanliness and safety concerns, and the way our complaints were handled, we will not return to or recommend Skylaranna Resort.

My experience was extremely disappointing
My experience was extremely disappointing due to serious cleanliness and maintenance issues. This “resort” boasts a luxury experience, however it was anything but. I dealt with broken, dirty, health risk rooms. A 15 child “summer camp” with limited supervision, two women who were more interested in reading and tanning than watching the kids, who took over the pool and hottub. While advertised on their website, many guests did not know of this and were uncomfortable with this large group of kids under the age of 13 running around the pool/ hot tub area so guests left. There were multiple times of the pool area having no clean towels to use, no bartender at the bar by the pool during peak hours, and again no staff around to address these issues, I shouldn’t have to call for the basic things that a resort advertises. Oh and the fire alarm randomly went off three times during my stay, all early morning 2 am ish.
I was initially assigned to room 4D, which had multiple problems, including a broken bathroom door and significant cleanliness concerns. The most alarming issue was visible mold or mildew on the side of the bed. I reported this to Kevin, but initially felt my concern was dismissed when he suggested it might be dust or a bleach stain. The attached photos clearly show that this was not the case.
We were moved to room 5C, which appeared better at first and seemed cleaner. However, there was a persistent musty odor throughout the room. On the final day of my stay, I discovered the source of the smell was the air conditioner, which was visibly filled with mold and mildew and appeared to be blowing it into the room. This is a serious health concern and not something guests should be exposed to.
When I reported this to Kevin there was no apology or offer of any type of refund. He said he would have it cleaned. Once I returned home I sent an email outlining my displeasure and requested a partial refund. This email, and follow up emails were never responded to.
While I appreciate that we were eventually moved rooms, the presence of mold and mildew in multiple areas raises major concerns about the property’s cleanliness, maintenance, attention to guest safety and providing a “luxury” experience. I hope these issues are addressed so future guests do not have the same experience. I will never go here again and do not recommend anyone else spend their money here

Be Ware...Don't waist your time or…
Be Ware...Don't waist your time or money. The event was booked months in advance and we were told that the place would be finished being worked on/repairs and cleaned up. We were told that there would be fresh flowers, plants, new mulch, and the grounds would be mowed. The location is Beautiful and has a lot of potential. however, they over promised and way, way, way under delivered. Not only did they not have the repairs done, there were no fresh flowers, no new mulch, the grounds were not mowed, and the rooms were filthy. The owner was overly rude and obnoxious and thought it was ok to bring potential clients through our event while it was going on.
The pool was filthy, the hot tub wouldn't work, there was mold on the steps leading to the fire pit, they never even took the time to use a leaf blower and clean the walkways or the deck. when we asked for it to be cleaned , we were handed the leaf blower.
I was only a guest at the event or there would have been words with the owner and some of the staff.
They seem to have no clue what they are doing, or they truly just do not care about You or Your Event . They just want your money. They are definitely not versed in truth or customer service.

Skylaranna Camp for Kids - what a Blast!
The plan was half days with no lunch at the day camp. That idea quickly changed after the first day of camp. Full days plus lunch and what a fantasy experience Ethan had at camp! Thank you to all that make such fabulous days for the kids. Highly recommend!
