My wife and I published our first book together; it has been an awful experience. I have published 4 books with KDP before now, and my experience is that it takes less than 48 hours to get a book live. In this case, however, we published the hardcover on 3 June 2022 and one month later, it is still stuck in review. It has been difficult getting someone on the phone that will provide actual answers. Their support team maintains that it is a technical issue, an issue that has been ongoing for one month. It is very sad that people who pre-ordered the book in May continue to wait to receive a copy. This has impacted our marketing efforts and the buzz created at the book launch has now gone down.
It is so sad to see that Amazon is not providing adequate support for self-publishing authors and I am very appalled at this service.

Update on the above review. Someone in management reviewed this case at my repeated requests and overturned the block. Amazon sent me an email admitting the error and apologized. They made it right.
Authors beware. I have published six books on KDP. Easy process, listed on Amazon, good, not great, but good sales. But now a change. Those who review your manuscript for publishing have become dictatorial. Case in point, I recently published a manuscript as a print book, submitted it and was approved. The book went live and is already selling. Then I elected to do an E-book of the same manuscript. Submitted it and got a message from the reviewer that he would not approve the E-book for publication because, wait for it, the content was to similar to that of the print book. Try as I may this reviewer would not accept the fact that it was indeed the same book only in E-book form. I tried to appeal his decision and all communication with the team was cut off. Instead, they blocked my E-book so I cannot do anything with it. It is still there on my bookshelf, just sitting there frozen in place by the all-powerful, do not dare question my decision, review team. This happened once before and thankfully I found someone in the review process who had some common sense and reversed the decision. but, that hum, that tone is still there, don't question us or we will block you.

If you publish your book via a company…
If you publish your book via a company and that company go out of business, you cannot ever update it or your information. Amazon KDP are very unhelpful and just cut and paste generic responses. AUTHORS BEWARE.

Authors beware
Authors beware! The recent jump in negative reviews are accurate. Something very wrong is going on at Amazon and kdp.
I've sold many books on Amazon for many years without problems. Their customer service has always been helpful. Not anymore.
For some unknown reason, KDP informed me that I was violating copyright rules because I rewrote one of MY books, with new formatting and a new cover. I owned ALL copyrights to this previous book and just wanted to make it better.
I showed them all the evidence needed, yet they still robotically told me, without showing me any of their evidence, that I had violated copyright rules.
I have every right to redo my book!
When I again showed them my copyrights, then they changed their story, saying I had two accounts!
I did not have two publishing accounts.
As also stated in some of the negative reviews, KDP is fabricating lies to close down author accounts, who have done nothing wrong. Why?
I don't know, but maybe they are cutting costs because it is expensive to keep authors who aren't bestsellers? Or more probable, since they are now allowing big publishing houses to advertise their books for far more revenue for KDP, did these houses work a deal to get rid of indie authors?
I do know that since CEO Jeff Bezos left, Amazon is not the great company it once was, and it seems its demise may come sooner than later.
SO PLEASE, if you are planning on publishing an indie book on KDP– stop! There is something seriously wrong happening at KDP.
Wait until there is an investigation or class-action lawsuit to bring out the truth into why KDP is suddenly making up lies to close down author's accounts who have done nothing wrong, stealing their royalties, and never allowing them to publish again.
There are other places to distribute books, which may be more expensive, but at least I doubt they will fabricate lies, steal your royalties, and then shut down your account!

SCAM
SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!! My book was supposed to be taken down a couple of years ago, and when i searched for it i couldn’t find it so i thought it had been. Turns out they never took it down, they were still selling it and i was getting zero royalties. I only found out my book was still up because someone on social media reached out to me that they’d purchased one. I reached out to KDP and for the last month have been getting the run around and pushed off. They still have not paid me royalties and i doubt they ever will. Worst decision i ever made was doing anything with them. And their fees are out of hand. I’m supposed to get only $8 on a $20 book … 🤦🏻♀️ … run from this scam company … run far and fast
