Chris, thank you for sharing with us. In regards to the button for the led lights, are you double clicking to activate? We have found several customers only single click, which will not activate the back-up battery feature. The Yellow Jacket is a back-up battery for your iPhone and does not negatively affect your battery in any way. We are actively working on a solution to slim down the case. The primary goal for us was to build a viable self defense tool, it is bulky because the Yellow Jacket is the most powerful civilian stun gun on the market producing 7+ micro-coloumbs.
