DIRECT EXPRESS DEBIT CARD
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER WITH USING DIRECT EXPRESS DEBIT CARD FOR DIRECT DEPOSITING SOCIAL SECURITY and/or DISABILITY MONIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ***************************************** UPDATE #1: As of Sat., Dec. 5, 2020 -- I checked the Better Business Bureau website and they have TONS of complaints just like mine listed (Read my ordeal below). Doesn't look good that my case will be resolved/refunded! UPDATE #2: Just got off the phone with the Social Security Administration and told them my story (see below) and they told me they do NOT recommend the Direct Express Card to anyone. They have tried calling them and they will not even talk to SSA. SSA KNEW OF THE SCAMS THAT DIRECT EXPRESS have been running. Six transactions were made on my card by someone else for a total of $199.04. I called them and filed a fraud report with them. They gave me a credit for the amount. I called the Wed. evening (night before) Thanksgiving to make sure of my balance, only to discover that they took the credit back putting my account with a negative $13+ balance. Needless, to say, so much for going to get our Thanksgiving meal on that Wed. evening. It was not a good Thanksgiving, especially with Covid 19 so they even spoiled our Thanksgiving. They sent to me by phone, the paperwork from the fraud investigation saying "confliction" and nothing else explaining in black and white and showing NO proof of 'confliction". Wouldn't you think in the fraud investigation papers (which they took two months to investigate) that they would mention and show proof what the two businesses said when (or if they even contacted them) said/told them? It took me over 3 days and well over a total of three hours to get thru to talk to anyone -- which that was not helpful and it was close to midnight. The man that finally answered my call by the name of Chris and he was calling from New York (at least that is what the phone number said on my phone), is the one that told me he would have a supervisor call me back within 24-48 hours. (In the meanwhile, I just tried calling the New York (Chris's) phone number and it has been disconnected or changed -- sounds fishy to me. Why would anyone have a New York phone number, when Direct Express is in San Antonio, TX?) Are Direct Express employees using customers cards to make purchases and that is why they are getting away with not solving everyones' fraud cases? Stop and think -- it makes sense. Nice scam business they might have going?!!!? I am now waiting for a supervisor to call me back -- but I am not holding my breath. I was told a supervisor would call me back within 24 to 48 hours. Guess what? That never happened. 48 hours has come and gone. They asked if I filled out a police report, which I responded no -- I have never been in this situation. Their response to me was that I had to call the two companies and resolve it myself. I hung up on him. I called our local police. In this day of Covid, an officer called me back. He was more helpful than the Direct Express employees. The officer told me that I would be wasting my time trying to deal with the companies, as he said -- that they will not give you any names of their customers. He ended up giving me the "incident number, his personal work phone number and extension number and his badge number." I told him that it looked like I was going to have to eat the $199.04. He told me no -- that I should keep calling them again, and again and again. With the way the never answer their phones, they are always busy -- no wonder, if this is how they run their business. I have had their card for years with no problems. You would think that they could look at my history with them and see that this has never happened before plus with Covid 19 and things being purchased on the internet, I'm sure this is happening more often. My advice is, if you have this card, get rid of it, research local banks to see if they carry cards like this, and if so, change and go with a genuine financial institution instead of a fly-by-night inconsiderate business. I found a financial institution locally and I am meeting with them tomorrow to set up an account where my Social Security Retirement can be deposited into. I live on a very limited income and can not afford to lose this $199.04. ***************************************** THIS IS THE WAY DIRECT EXPRESS TREATS SENIOR CITIZENS AND THE DISABLED! *****************************************
