Riverwaterwatch.com was built because we love river cruising. We help river cruise passengers understand river cruise water levels and the risk of disruption across Europe’s major cruise rivers, including Danube water levels, Rhine water levels, Elbe water levels and Seine water levels. If you are checking Rhine river cruise water levels, Danube river cruise conditions, low water on the Danube, low water on the Rhine, high water, flooding, changing river conditions or the likelihood of a river cruise itinerary being disrupted, River Water Watch is designed to make that information much easier to understand.Every morning, we bring together official river gauge readings, rainfall forecasts, current river conditions and historical river data to assess the likelihood of river cruise disruption. Instead of asking passengers to interpret hydrology reports or monitor individual gauges themselves, we turn the information into a simple view of how likely a cruise is to sail as planned. We monitor both low water river cruise conditions and high water river cruise conditions, with particular attention to the stretches of the Rhine and Danube that can affect European river cruise itineraries. Our river cruise water level forecasts are intended to help passengers who are researching a future trip as well as those already booked and watching conditions before departure.Google describes River Water Watch as “a completely legitimate, independent tool used by travelers to track and predict water levels on Europe’s cruise rivers.”That independence matters to us. River Water Watch is not affiliated with any cruise line or waterway authority. We are also huge fans of the river cruise industry and know how hard cruise operators work to keep itineraries running when river conditions are outside their control. Most river cruises sail exactly as planned. When there is a genuine risk of river cruise disruption, itinerary changes or cancellation, we think passengers are better served by having c

Great to have someone monitoring this for my upcoming trip.

Thanks Jocelyn. We’re glad we can do some of the monitoring for you before your trip. Keeping track of gauges, rainfall and forecasts can become a bit of a job in itself, so hopefully River Water Watch means you can spend a little less time checking the river and more time looking forward to the cruise.
Since August, I have anxiously been watching the Rhine river levels and hoping for the waters to rise. I google Rhein river levels and have gone on multiple sites, praying to hear good news. I stumbled on the River Water Watch site and now every week I receive an updated forecast with what percentage I can expect my specific river cruise will happen without alternatives to cruising. As my departure draws closer and the Rhein river doesn’t appear to be rising, I am now making my own alternate plans for the trip since River Watch predicts I have only a 25% chance of cruising the entire time. These updates have allowed me to prepare for the high probability that some of my river cruising will be replaced with busing. I like this site because it asks for your specific cruise line, the date and location from which you depart, and the length of your cruise. I feel like it is factoring in all information before making its prediction for my trip. As the region is not getting the predicted October rains, I have watched my percentages sink from 56% to 25%.

Thanks Connie. We’re glad the updates have helped you prepare, even though the current outlook is not the news anyone wants before a cruise. One important thing to remember is that a 25% chance of sailing exactly as planned does not mean there is only a 25% chance of having your cruise. River cruise companies are very experienced at dealing with difficult stretches of river and can use ship swaps, different embarkation points, buses and other changes to keep trips moving when necessary. There is still time for the Rhine to change before you leave, so we certainly would not give up on the trip. We’ll keep watching the river closely and hopefully those percentages start heading in the other direction.
Happy to have such a wonderful and informative site. Very useful during the times of low water levels and trip planning.

Thanks Jo Ann. We’re very glad you’re finding the site useful, particularly while water levels are lower than everyone would like. These periods can be worrying before a trip, but river conditions do change and the cruise companies put a huge amount of work in behind the scenes to keep their cruises operating. We’ll keep watching the rivers and hopefully see some improvement soon.
I have travelled on previous river cruises with Riviera and they are outstanding. Due to travel in December and along with other travellers concerned about waterways on the Rhine. I have been notified on River Water Watch with Riviera, who are keeping us up to date on water levels. This is very helpful and appreciate what Riviera are doing to keep us all informed. Thank you Riviers

Thanks Jan. It’s lovely to hear you’ve had such good experiences with Riviera on previous river cruises. December is still some way off and a lot can change on the Rhine before then. We’re glad River Water Watch is useful alongside the updates you’re receiving from Riviera. Cruise companies work very hard to keep guests informed and keep trips running when river conditions become difficult. Hopefully you’ll have another fantastic cruise with them.
The updates that River Watch sends are very helpful!

Thanks Madelyne. We’re very glad the updates are helping. We’ll keep watching the rivers and sending the latest information as your trip gets closer. Hopefully the conditions are kind to you and you have a fantastic cruise.
What a great service. Getting notices on river conditions prior to my Rhine/Danube Rivers cruise has put my mind at rest so anticipation for my trip can be positive rather than worrisome. Thanks River Water Watch!

Thanks Sarah. That’s wonderful to hear. One of the main reasons we built River Water Watch was to take some of the worry out of the weeks before a cruise. The Rhine and Danube are both fantastic rivers, and the cruise companies know them extremely well and are used to adapting when conditions change. Hopefully you can now concentrate on looking forward to the trip rather than worrying about the river. Have an amazing cruise.
Keeping me informed so can make a decision to go or cancel. Thanks

Thank you. We’re glad the updates are helping you understand the current situation and make sense of what might happen. One thing we would always say is to wait for the cruise line’s own advice before making a decision to cancel. Difficult water levels do not necessarily mean the cruise will not operate. River cruise companies deal with changing river conditions every year and work very hard to find ways to keep their trips running. We’ll keep watching the river and hopefully the picture improves before you travel.
I like to be an informed traveler . . . River Watch has not given me good new . . .but now I am aware and can pack better

Thanks Kathleen. We completely understand. It is not always the news people want to receive before a trip, but hopefully having the information means you can prepare rather than be surprised. River conditions can still change, and the cruise companies are very experienced at working around difficult stretches when they need to. We certainly hope you still get to enjoy the trip and that the river gives us some better news before you leave.
