I recently took a short road trip (10 miles round trip), which might sound simple, but for me, it was a big deal. I usually experience crippling anxiety when traveling—especially in cars. Whether I’m the driver or the passenger, the anxiety can be so intense that it affects everyone around me. This time, I decided to try something different. On the way to my destination, I held off on taking my beta blocker to see if I could manage without it. Unfortunately, the anxiety hit just as hard as usual. About 45 minutes after taking the beta blocker, though, I felt a wave of relief. I could finally sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. I was calm and peaceful, but still alert—no grogginess or weird side effects. On the drive back, I was behind the wheel the entire time. With the beta blocker, I remained composed and focused. It completely changed the experience—for me and everyone else in the car. I’ll absolutely be keeping these on hand for future road trips and flights. For the first time in years, I didn’t start a vacation feeling tense, exhausted, or overwhelmed by adrenaline. I could’ve cried from the relief of feeling genuinely calm and normal.
