I went into store on Tuesday to try gluten free and vegan cakes on sale. As I suffer from coeliac disease I was very cautious in wanting to try the cake. However, the lady behind the counter ensured me it would be safe as it's made and packed in a whole gluten free section with different utensils used and assured there is no cross contamination. After trying the cake, I was violently sick and spent my whole evening in the bathroom. I also bought a vegan cake as my 18 month old child suffers from severe allergies and luckily on this occasion I decided not to give him the cake. The staff in store strongly reassured me that the cake is coeliac safe however after checking the website I've seen the cakes are actually handled in a factory that handles wheat and milk! THIS IS NOT SAFE! It also needs to be stated on the gluten free and vegan cake packaging as it is negligible. The disconcern and the lack of responsibility the staff have shown really worries me as allergies and intolerances can cause debilitating lifelong issues or could potentially cause death.
