Wave accepted $15,669.83, charged its fee, and said it would hold the money for 70 days. Unacceptable.
A major law firm client paid my legitimate $15,669.83 Wave invoice on July 24, 2026. Wave charged its 1% fee but did not transfer the money to my business. Wave then demanded an extensive list of documents, including my agreement and correspondence with the client, a client-satisfaction confirmation, three months of bank statements, business-registration records, identity verification, refund policies, advertising information, and prior payment-processing records. I have used Wave for years. Wave already had the invoice, the linked bank account, my payment history, and my invoicing history. This invoice was smaller than my average invoice, and the client was a large U.S. law firm. I explained that I was acting as an expert witness and could not provide confidential litigation agreements and communications to a third-party payment processor. I asked Wave to use its own records and publicly available business information. Wave did not address my concerns. It repeatedly copied and pasted the same generic checklist. It eventually stated that it would hold the bank payment for 70 days and then return it to the client unless I supplied the requested documents. Wave said it could not refund or reverse the payment sooner and told me that the client could ask its bank to try to recover the money. Wave therefore accepted the client’s money, deducted a fee, refused to pay my business, and would not promptly return the funds. I have disabled Wave payments for all other clients and will use another payment method in the future. This experience defeated the entire purpose of using Wave to save time.
