The Sober CreativeReviews of thesobercreative.com

I am so grateful for the experience of getting to work with Josh these past 12 weeks. Through his gentle, compassionate coaching and receptivity to personalizing the Sober Creative Method experience to my particular needs, I was able to: - define what sobriety means for me - experiment with different accountability practices - come up with a system that is working far better anything I've tried in the past (It's also more fun!) When I think of sobriety, it feels like something heavy, but Josh made it light and playful. Most important, I felt deeply supported and held through the whole process. He helped me navigate complicated life situations that used to derail me, including going on a cruise, traveling, and family celebrations. I'm moving forward with newfound freedom and that is priceless.

I came into this 30-day experience thinking it wasn’t “for me.” I don’t struggle with sobriety in the traditional sense—but I do struggle with escape. Mine just wears a different mask: stress eating, not eating at all, swinging between control and overwhelm. This space met me where I was. One night, past midnight, I was exhausted and unraveling. I had fallen asleep mid-sentence typing my Sunday newsletter. I woke up to a screen full of 3s and a mind full of pressure. I wanted something crunchy and salty … something to take the edge off. Instead, I opened the group chat and told the truth. And that’s where this experience changed me. No judgment. No fixing. Just presence and understanding. Josh is a GODSEND! His presence, calm voice and constant support helped me tremendously. This isn’t just about sobriety. It’s about awareness. It’s about learning to sit with yourself in the moments you’d usually run. It’s about choosing differently, one small, honest moment at a time. I felt seen here. Supported. Human. If you think this isn’t for you, it might be exactly what you need.🩷

I’m not sure what I was expecting but Josh more than exceeded it in so many ways. He has such a calming and steady presence and provided gentle leadership. Somehow he makes creativity a higher calling that deserves your best self. There’s no judgement, only a source of wisdom that reflects back what each person was discovering on his or her own. I definitely want to continue on with this sober reset path and am grateful for this time. I wish others who were more new to the reset had participated in the what’s app. But maybe they weren’t ready. The space and people who did contribute couldn’t have been more welcoming.

Through this Creative Reset, Josh offers a powerful invitation to release the patterns that quietly drain energy and clarity. Through a thoughtful focus on self-awareness, it creates intentional space to pause, reflect, and choose a different response, echoing Viktor Frankl’s quote, “Between Simulus and response…” The work honors the space between experience and reaction—recognizing it as a place of possibility, agency, and growth. In doing so, it affirms our inherent capacity to move through inner struggle and step into a more peaceful, empowered way of being.

This wasn't my first Dry January - I've been doing this annually since 2020, and sometimes again in autumn. I see it as a good way to cleanse my body after all the drinking in December. This time I decided to do the Reset with Josh, and what a difference that made. Josh guides his Reset in a way that goes beyond simply "stimulating not drinking". We received a daily email with a question to reflect on - not about alcohol, but rather about what becomes possible without drinking. Or what shows up in our awareness when there's no alcohol involved. Those questions really made me think, in a way that went much deeper than I had anticipated. Additionally, there was a WhatsApp group for sharing experiences, a personal tracker to monitor your process, and weekly online meetings with space for deeper sharing and a meditative closing. What touched me most was the safety that Josh managed to create. He is gentle, respectful and completely non-judgmental, which allowed everyone - including in the WhatsApp group - to be vulnerable and share very personal things. It was precisely through others' reflections that I was also prompted to think about my own motives for drinking alcohol. I wouldn't have gained that insight if I had done this alone. His most important tip for me: see each time as a choice, don't make it about "never drinking again for the rest of my life". That nuance unlocked something in me. For the first time since I've been doing resets, I'm seriously considering choosing non-alcoholic on a structural basis. That wasn't an option before, now I find it very attractive. Josh's guidance is suitable for anyone who finds themselves worth the effort to seriously examine behavior that is potentially unhealthy. Whether you just want a reset, or really want to stop drinking and need help with that - Josh guides and supports in a way that works. I highly recommend Th Sobre Creative!

I was part of Josh’s Sober Creative Reset in January of 2026. Josh created an incredibly supportive structure for allowing us all to examine our relationship with alcohol and the part we want it to play in our lives. In the end, I am not choosing to abstain from Alcohol fully, but the gift of this challenge was insights on when and why I choose to drink and how I want to approach it consciously going forward. This was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone wanting to examine their relationship with alcohol.

I knew that every time I tried to stop drinking alcohol that I was one step closer to being able to kick the bottle to the door. I have read books, listened to podcasts, talked with my sober friends and family, talked with my drinking family & friends about stopping, discussed being sober with my therapist...but the one thing that was missing from my experiences was a "Josh". Someone who's been there, on both sides of the drinking, to guide, to encourage, to welcome and to ponder with. I really appreciated the daily reflections; what I really liked about them was that they weren't about alcohol. And I know that using alcohol isn't really about drinking alcohol, its about something unique to each of us. It is found in the deepest part of me, in the stillness of the moment that Josh offered to me when he asked me to reflect. I would wake each morning and find the daily email with the reflection prompt and paste it into my calendar, then I would go about my day and on my drive home from work, I would think about drinking. Then I would think about the reflection. I wanted to get to the other side of the desire to drink, to be able to experience what was waiting for me in the quite moment of that reflection. The one that I would write as I lay in bed, typing it out, freeing it from my soul through my fingertips. And then all of sudden, there it was, that deep part of me, the part that had been waiting for me to tend to it, that was the part that alcohol had been hiding from me. With Josh as a guide, I have been sober since January 1, 2026. I know that the effort is all mine but knowing that Josh was out there, waiting to read my reflection, made it feel less lonely. And even though Sober January is over, I know that Josh is still out there, cheering for me, cheering for all of us!

I am a 10-plus-years daily drinker. By August 2025, I was in really bad shape—drinking daily, with a swollen face, feeling foggy and anxious—and I noticed that my alcohol intake kept increasing. Then I came across Josh’s essay on the Sobriety application, which impressed me a lot. So I decided to start one-on-one coaching. In the very first session Josh showed no judgment, no preaching, and didn't talk about alcohol statistics. He offered a clear, structured plan with positive creativity. Now, after 3 months working with Josh, I am seeing tangible results (with no medication or supplements). I am still in recovery, but now I am very positive and optimistic. I haven't opened the door of the liquor store for two and a half months which I wasn't able to achieve for many years until I started working with Josh. Also, English is my second language, and I appreciate Josh’s effort managing my accent and mistakes during Zoom sessions. Money-wise, the coaching sessions with Josh are absolutely worth it when seeing how much improvement my life has had with his coaching. I would highly recommend Josh’s coaching to anyone struggling with similar issues as I am.
