Extremely Bad. They are not even making an effort to reach out to people and just asking me for alternate contact details. One of the worst background verification I am undergoing in the international market. I dont even wish to give them a single star. I have left an organisation more than a year ago and now they ask me for alternate contact details. I have travelled between so many countries and they ask me for last 10 years house address.

Its easier to apply for citizenship in a foreign country.

I am going through a background check handled by this company. It’s being a nightmare. Originally I was provided with very unclear instructions about which document to upload. They wanted my documents to be verified by a professional (out of a list of 10 professionals I found out that only public notaries are able to do that - for a lot of money of course). 3 days after I was asked to provide extra documents by email to allow a criminal search (no specifications on which documents needed). I have got in touch with them 3 times so far to ask for more info and every time I get told to wait extra 24h to allow them to get in touch with the criminal search team and ask. No way to get in touch directly with the team requiring the extra documents. Very poor quality. Everything looks absolutely bad organised. I advise any hiring company to avoid Sterling. This damages your reputation as well.

Wow. Really bad. Companies considering a background check service should seriously use a different one, as they are the worst part of the hiring process. They call your former employers and schools ONE TIME, and if they can't get a hold of them, they email you demanding W2s and pay stubs. They basically put their entire job on the potential hire. Feels like they are leveraging the situation you're in, because you want this new job so will help them track down the necessary documentation but they are really really exploiting that to a shady level! I hope companies considering a background check service reference this Trustpilot page and don't subject their new hires to this incredibly frustrating experience.

sooooooo bad had to wait more than two months and still waiting. Phone not answering put me in hold for more than 30 minutes and finally hang the line . We need to take them to the court

I know my story isn’t as intense as others, but I’ll share anyway. I’m currently in the process to become an Uber Eats delivery cyclist, and needed to do a background check through sterling direct. It has been the worst experience I’ve had getting a job, and don’t understand why a company such as Uber would still use a company that is full of completely incompetent people. I submitted my background check on the 30th June, 8 days ago at the time I’m writing this. I called them this morning and was informed that due to a ‘system error’ my application had not been processed. The customer service agent took a second and literally processed the application over the phone, (something which should have been done 8 days ago) and told me that I would have to wait another week to receive my background check confirmation. In what world does it take 15 days to do a criminal check on someone who wants to cycle about and deliver people food. It’s not as if I’ve just landed a job managing nuclear launch keys, I just want to deliver some food. Anyone who can see this, if possible, avoid using this company at all costs, and the same goes for companies like Uber who are still using this god awful company.

My experience was not bad. It may also depend on what your company needs. My company required a ten year employment check, drug screening, full life criminal background (adult-a little over 20 years for me and for all states/counties, national, FBI, and local), and I9 verification. Once I read the reviews about the company, I began gathering information myself and submitted it right away. For my employment I submitted all of the W2's that I had and if I could not find the W2's I contacted my past employers requesting letters confirming employment (which was a nice amount). My criminal history is clear but I have lived in 5 states and double that number in actual counties. I scheduled the drug and I9 immediately. I called Sterling literally everyday as well as responded to any emails that they sent to me immediately. I put alot of the work in but I really wanted the job. I was not about to let someone else dictate if I got it or not. However, when I did call the customer service was ok...depending on who I spoke with. My suggestion is do as much as you can and be ahead of the game. Whatever information you can gather on your own...do it and submit it to them. I know it sucks because we aren't getting paid to do their job, but if you really want the job you are applying for, then handle your own business. Since I was ahead of the game and stayed on top of everything, my process took 4 days. It was helpful reading the reviews and seeing the difficulties others had with the company...I just used it to my advantage. Also, I did everything without them requesting. When I would call to check on status they would often ask that I wait until they actually ask for something...I did NOT wait. Check your status daily and see what they are waiting for and get it yourself if possible. Example: I had one employer that they were waiting for (I sent over the verification but for some reason they needed to talk to someone). So...I called that employer myself (Sterling was just "waiting"), got someone directly and gave them the phone number and my request ID for my file. It was handled in an hour. If you can, get your request ID and give it to your past employers and ask them to call (obviously you would use this if employment verification is holding up the process). On the flipside...I am not sure what my experience would have been if I had waited for them to do the work so I can't rate on that.

Sterling one is a complete joke, I have been trying to get hired by a company and this whole process has been a nightmare.
