I went through a Sterling background check in November 2019 and the experience was great. It was easy to provide my information using my mobile phone and simple to schedule my appointment for lab testing.

I don't know why employers higher sterling for background check if the job applicant has to do everything on their own. My employment verification was done and the fax was sent by my previous employers to sterling but they said they could not find it. My previous employer sent me fax confirmation via email. Sterling don't take any responsibility in fact they should be liable for someone to miss opportunity just because they can not do their job. I request to all employers PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT HIRE COMPANIES LIKE STERLING IT CAN CAUSE SOMEONE'S LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY.

As a candidate, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sterling was quick to respond, communicative and caring. Great job and thank you! I got the job!!!

Useless, Incompetent and Slow

Update: Following the posting of this review, some member of Sterling got in contact and have managed to accelerate and complete my checks. I'm not sure what went wrong originally but I have upgraded my review to 4 stars based on the support I've subsequently received from the Sterling team. My advice though to Sterling would be to communicate with candidates through the process more regularly, that way there is no misunderstanding about what is required/outstanding. Original Review: Disclaimer - I have been through several of these checks in the past as my industry requires them. Never had problems with other agencies. I have been waiting for the completion of my background checks very patiently. Today I got notified by my employer that Sterling are requesting further information, information that I sent them over a week ago!!! I've emailed them again, no response. I've called them and as far as I can tell based on 3 phone calls the operators can hear me at the start but when I give them the organisation they are performing the background checks on behalf of, suddenly they can no longer hear me and disconnect the call. Very suspicious this happens at the same point on each call. All in all a pretty terrible experience so far which seems to be the norm with Sterling based on the reviews... Sterling you are delaying my start date which is causing me considerable stress as I'm currently out of work. Sort it out!!!

I have been waiting for my background check to be completed, for over a month. Not for a bank, not for DHS, not for Lockheed Martin, but for a call center. Having been responsible for performing background checks, myself, I know there is no excuse for this whatsoever. Most public records are available online for free, and subscriptions to LexisNexis are pretty cheap, so this makes no sense to me whatsoever. As an individual who has hired and onboarded over 10,000 people, I would not recommend Sterling to anyone looking for an efficient partner to assist in their pre-employment screenings. You will lose valuable, qualified reqs by wasting your time with a company as complacent, inefficient, and as ill-equipped, as Sterling.

Website broken online forms not working support non existent! Trying to do a background check and being held up because the system wont accept my address history dates even though they are correct and there is no error my end im even being told by support to change the dates (to wrong ones) to make it work even though they then will not be correct what the hell kind of a joke company is this! You should not be in vontrol of peoples employment process you are clearly incompetent! Support basically asked me to falsify my information to make the form work and be accepted if this isnt something that screams dodgy then i dont know!!! Oh and even then it didnt work!

Most racist company ever they lied on my background and said i tested positive for weed when i dont smoke all they want is your 150 dollars to get the same sample they lied about retested
