One issue i have is the continued increase in cost I feel bamboozled in the sense That i originally rented at a specific price And it seems they know I’m not in a hurry to retrieve my belongings So they increase it regularly And i feel powerless over that increase I live out of state And don’t currently have the means to relocate the stuff in my storage unit So i feel financially held hostage It would be great if they could offer deals and discounts to long termers Rather than penalize us Thank you for asking ♥️

The storage building is safe and secure, and the people are super nice. My only major complaint was when they increased my monthly fee without any warning, and by a significant amount.

The elevator situation at this building is totally unacceptable

Paul and Jackie, who are on-site, represent the company well. My concern with Self Storage 1 is that, probably like other storage facilities, they offer a reasonable rate and then jack the price up in a few months. Once you’ve moved in it’s a hassle to move out for that incremental (but extortionist) hundred or more bucks a month. This has happened to me two times with a Self Storage One (I should have learned the first time). And what really irks me is when I move out they offer a discounted rate. Why couldn’t they have just kept me happy as my faith in their customer commitment started to wane? There is a psychology here and it’s not a pro-customer stance; I don’t take it away from a company to make a profit. I just want them to be committed to the customer even before they threaten to leave.

The facility is great except for the fact that they are continually raising our rent on the unit. We were sold a unit for $379/mo and it is now almost $500/mo less than a year later.

Overall I’ve had a minimally acceptable experience at self one. The price is low and I keep my expectations there too. It’s been around two years at the Lincoln Park location and the elevator has been broken twice (one time was a week plus at least) and being on the second floor makes things hard. One of the garage doors was broken for a very long time as well. I’ve tried to use the free truck 3 times in two years and twice it was broken down, and the other I couldn’t reach the office to try to make arrangements. The garage is generally a mess with people not knowing how to park(taking up two spots) and others taking up too much space and even blocking the elevator at times. One time I had to take the elevator back up to the second floor and call the elevator 4 time to get the alternate elevator that wasn’t blocked. When I went to get some assistance from the office it was locked. I called but got the main not local office and didn’t get a return call till much later in the day. I would say overall it’s ok but wouldn’t recommend it to a friend without major qualifications.
