While Seido Knives is a proudly Canadian-owned company, our fulfillment center is currently located outside of Canada. This is noted in our shipping and return policies, and unfortunately, it means that some Canadian orders may incur import duties in accordance with Canadian customs regulations — which are outside of our control. That said, we want to clarify that we are already in contact with this customer directly and have extended offers in case they still wish to complete the purchase rather than return the order. Because our knives are used for food preparation, we don’t resell any opened or used items—even if they appear unused. For the health and safety of all customers, any returned knives are discarded. As a part of our warranty policy, we typically offer replacements for items that are damaged or defective, provided that the damage is reported within 30 days of receiving the product. This allows us to ensure that any defects are addressed promptly. In your case, you mentioned that the knives were in perfect condition when you received them. Since the order was placed last year, the damage appears to have occurred later, it falls under normal wear and tear. Factors such as moisture exposure, prolonged soaking, or improper storage over time can contribute to wear and tear, especially with items like knives that are handled regularly. Unfortunately, this type of damage is not covered under our warranty, as it typically results from usage over a longer period, rather than being a defect.

Our team carefully assessed your knife set and determined that, while there were minor cosmetic imperfections for some of the knives, they were fully functional and not defective. Because of this, our standard return policy, including the restocking fee, is applied. To ensure you had the best possible resolution, we offered both a return option and a $100.00 partial refund, which you ultimately accepted. We also provided guidance on how minor cosmetic issues could be resolved with varnish. For future reference, if a product is damaged in transit or deemed defective, we always replace it at no cost. As outlined in our policy, all defects must be reported within 30 days of receiving the product. If the item had no issues upon delivery, our warranty does not extend to damages caused during usage, accidents, breakage, or other similar issues resulting from improper use. However, if the item was damaged during transit, we are more than happy to replace it at no cost.
