worst experience ever

I’m sorry but your name is not in our customer database so I’m not sure what kind of worst experience you could have had? Please clarify your one star review.
This project took 14 months longer than expected and 20 months longer than it should have. I waited and waited. I often would reach out to see what (if anything) was happening, and rarely did anyone know. I had to go over every version with a fine-tooth comb, and made many more grammatical and other corrections than their “editing” staff. Honestly, I feel that I could have done a better job much faster by myself. I only hope that Redemption Press can assist with distribution. Edit: After being contacted by the publisher about this review, I will, at their insistence, edit it. This publishing house works very hard to be transparent about their publishing model. They are very invested in not misleading anyone into thinking that they give different authors different contracts or options. I am not a “customer” in the usual sense, I have been informed. So, this publishing house would be very grateful if you would disregard my experience.

Hello Dana, I am so sorry to hear this. I know there was some trouble with us being able to reach the author since he is a missionary and not available for us to work with. Having others representing him definitely slowed everything down. There are a few other factors that were out of the box, but please accept my apologies … as you can see from the other 200+ reviews, this is not the normal outcome for our authors.
I have written a book and paid all the expenses to publish it. When you assumed the previous company you started fighting for power, a lot of videos where one was saying bad things about the other. A turbulent situation and my book was not published and all the money I had paid did not return to me. An absurd. I do not understand why you did this as you always say that you are respectful people of God. I am really very sad since then.

Hello William, I am so sorry for what happened to you at WinePress Publishing after I was out of the picture. I actually did not assume the other company, but started Redemption Press to help those who were left without a publisher. Perhaps you're thinking of another person as I never used video or lives to discuss the situation, the only online chronicle was on my blog www.notafraidtotellmystory.com. I'm also not finding your name on our WinePress Author List (and couldn't find you on Amazon) so I'm not sure how I can try to help or explain what happened. I've worked hard to do whatever I could for WinePress authors who were left in the lurch. I don't recall ever hearing from you in the months that ensued when I was asked to step in and help the authors left hanging.
I wrote a review last month about an experience that I had with Athena, owner of WinePress and Redemption Press. My English and Spanish bilingual editions of my book were published 2008 & 2009. Athena wrote me privately for obvious reasons. She sold WinePress and then they went out of business and left me holding the bag. I had $12,000 on my account with WinePress which disappeared. They had 15,000 copies of my books in their warehouse. I was threatened that if I didn’t send more money immediately that they would throw my books in the garbage. This was after I had already paid all of the publishing costs. It was like putting a gun to my head. I also paid extra to have Redemption put their stickers on all of my books in stock. Athena has known about this since 2009 and she has made no effort at all to help rectify this disaster. She only contacted me recently after my first review. As of this date neither Athena nor Redemption has done anything to clear up the disaster that she caused. She likes to blame others, but all of these things came about as a result of her decisions. I hesitate to respond because it seems no matter what I say you will remain unhappy. As I wrote to you via email, WinePress went out of my control long before you contracted with them. When I was asked to come back to WA to help the authors who were abandoned by the new owners, I did all that I could to rescue the books that were in the warehouse. All the authors that I heard from were thankful for what I was able to do to keep their books from being destroyed by the landlord. I assure you that without exception I’ve always done whatever was needed to make things right. Frankly, I’m trying to process your responses and this is the first time I’m at a loss as to how to make things right.
I have written several books but even when I buy my book I do not see any royalties. I frankly do not trust you.

Thanks for voicing your concern, Johnny. I will have Heather pull a report on your titles. Perhaps we can determine the problem. One thing could be if you didn't set up a bill.com account then you are paid annually rather than monthly, and those annual checks are paid out in May of each year.
I think the first thing is to distinguish between the authors who submitted a publication query, or a MS to which you replied; "we do not publish Catholic Authors" which is in itself discriminatory, and those who you bothered to read the Ms before you actually turned it down. The MS is now in the hands of one of the biggest publishers in the UK and as always when bad things happen, it means something better will always turn up. That day was during this year not 2023. I am not going to waste my time here arguing that what they said here is completely made up. They had the MS and never read it. That being said I read other reviews about them and there have been case they did not pay writers their royalties and I quote 29 Jan 2014 — They've broken contracts and failed to pay out royalties earned, and they've got the gall to charge nearly $400 to the people they've already ... Update - thanks for copy and pasting that comment from January 29, 2014 - Redemption Press opened for business on January 27, 2014 which would hardly give us time to have "broken contracts" on the 29th - that post was in regards to WinePress Publishing which went into the wrong hands after I owned it for 18 years. That whole story is well documented in my memoir and on my www.NotAfraidToTellMyStory.com blog that recounted the WinePress debacle. I appreciate you sharing that comment so I could provide some context. Thank you for your comments, Raymond. Since we are a Christian Publisher we also have a Statement of Faith and Author Guidelines that any author we publish must agree to. That is not discriminatory, but integrity. We do not publish everyone, only those we can really get behind. There are too many issues with Catholic doctrine that we don't believe is biblical, but the same is true with the prosperity doctrine and other movements within the church that are not sound. I'm so glad you found another publisher who could help you with your project, since we weren't a good fit for you!
As a writer and author, I found that Redemption Press has no program to assist in getting a book published. As a Christian Pastor and author, I have to go through other publishers to get my book published. Next the prices for getting a book published here is absolutely to expensive. As much I would like to use the services of Redemption Press, the prices are not affordable for a writer as my self. I've had 3 other books published through other publishers and would like to use a Christian publisher, but just not affordable. I've tried several times to work with Redemption Press and got nothing but rude arrogance from your phone agents. I have 3 books already published and selling in book stores and on Amazon as well. Your reply was very condescending and not very Christian.

Thank you for your review! There are many Christian publishers out there who do not require the levels of coaching and editing in order to produce products that can compete in the marketplace. We believe the proper editing that makes a story the best it can be is vitally important, but depending on your word count can be quite costly. That's why we allow authors to utilize our interest free payment plan or raise the funds through our crowdfunding option. Excellence in publishing is not inexpensive, you are right about that! But that is not something we apologize for. The fruit of our dedication to excellence is many authors and books who win awards, authors who end up getting signed with well respected Christian agents, and many are best sellers on Amazon in their respective category.
