Portland Leather Goods was founded in 2015 when Curtis Matsko began crafting leather goods in his Portland garage with a simple goal: create beautifully simple, high-quality leather bags at a price people could actually afford. What started as a one-man project has grown into a global community of leather lovers, artisans, and repeat customers who believe great design should be accessible. We specialize in simply designed leather bags and accessories, including crossbody bags, tote bags, backpacks, wallets, journals, and everyday carry essentials. Our focus is on clean lines, functional design, and real leather that looks, feels, and smells like leather should. We source our hides from the beef industry, giving materials that would otherwise go to waste a second life. Our leather is tanned in award-winning facilities that prioritize environmentally responsible practices. Because our bags are made from real leather that is not synthetically coated or painted over, natural markings such as spots, grain variation, and occasional scars are part of what makes each piece unique. We own and operate our artisan workshop, The Studio, in León, Mexico, located near two of the most respected tanneries in North America. This close partnership allows us to maintain high standards, reduce environmental impact, and build long-term relationships with the people who make our products.Today, Portland Leather Goods continues to grow through word of mouth and a loyal customer base who appreciate simple design, durable materials, and accessible pricing. Our business is built around people, from our artisans to our customer support team to the community that proudly shares their bags every day.

My husband brought me the kola sling bag ( meadow) for my birthday. The bag is everything 🙌. The leather is amazing you can smell the leather as soon as you open the box. I love the magnetic closer on the bag. The only downside for me is the strap isn't long enough for me. I stand 6"0 tall and wish the strap was just a little longer.

I bought the Poppy Crossbody purse in the color cold brew from Portland Leather. I have used it twice and would not purchase again because the purse is easily scratched even by my short fingernails.

A company that is growing rapidly because of selling on TikTok, should have much better customer service support. Refunds are difficult to get, even for damaged or missing items. Customer service agents are only available online, and rarely get back in a timely manner. When you finally get an approval for return, you the consumer has to pay the return shipping fees of 10, 15 dollars. And thats even if the item is damaged. The more I deal with this company, the worse their customer service gets.

The return process with this company has been incredibly frustrating. The automated return portal wasn't functioning properly for my recent order. I reached out to customer service to get a direct refund to my original payment method for an unused item, but the process became a total hassle. To make matters worse, they never reply back to my messages. Because they never reached out to me, I ended up having to keep the bag. The products are really not all that, and because of this terrible support and communication, I will never order anything else from them.

As I look at other reviews, I’m happy to say that I had a great experience with my first order. I purchased two koala slings, and three circle, crossbody bags. They are all just as described! Quality leather to the touch and smell. I received my order pretty quickly, only four days after I placed it. My only complaint is that the delivery companies could do better. They dropped this large package off on the edge of my steps for all to see which was disappointing. At the very least, it should have been placed by my front door. Besides that, great experience!

I have ordered several bags from this company.one style I have in several colors in suede and leather. It’s lovely and I like it. Other orders are okay but overpriced I felt. They don’t offer free exchanges or returns. Shipping is pricey too. My biggest complaint is the shoulder straps are, even for a cross body, way too long. I have spent $$ to have them shortened. They do not offer a choice of length. I am 5’2”. Some purchases have actually been disappointing but not worth paying to return. Also the color can be way off from pictured sometimes. I probably will not be ordering any more because they don’t give a phone #. You can only message them. I don’t have time for that back and forth.

I am incredibly disappointed with Portland Leather Goods and the lack of a reasonable solution to a shipping issue that should have been relatively simple to resolve. I was genuinely excited to receive my bag, but unfortunately, the shipping carrier assigned to my order refuses to deliver to my home on an active-duty military installation. I understand that military bases have security requirements, which is why I offered to meet the delivery driver at the front entrance of the installation. Even that was apparently not an acceptable solution. The carrier informed me that my address would automatically be marked as undeliverable, regardless of any notes added to the delivery instructions. I also requested a callback from a supervisor, which never happened. After reaching out to Portland Leather Goods and following up when I received no response, I was finally informed that the company cannot select or guarantee a specific shipping carrier, including USPS or FedEx. Even more frustrating, their proposed solution was to send a replacement order while acknowledging that it could be assigned to the exact same courier, potentially resulting in the exact same delivery problem. How is that a reasonable solution? I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for a company to provide a reliable way for a paying customer to receive an order. USPS and FedEx regularly service military installations, yet Portland Leather apparently has no way to accommodate this situation or guarantee that a replacement will actually arrive. As a military family, we already navigate frequent moves and the challenges of living on installations. It is disappointing to encounter a company that cannot provide a workable shipping alternative. What bothers me most is not simply the delivery issue, but the lack of meaningful resolution. Portland Leather has acknowledged the problem, yet the only replacement option offered could repeat the same failure. I wanted to love this company and its products. Instead, I am left questioning why a business selling nationwide cannot offer greater flexibility when its chosen delivery service is unable to complete an order. Military families deserve the same opportunity to receive the products they purchase as any other customer. Until Portland Leather improves its shipping options and customer service, I cannot recommend ordering from them if you live on a military installation. A beautiful product and a good reputation mean very little when the company cannot ensure customers can actually receive their purchases.

To start with, five minutes after putting my order through, I wrote customer service to tell them I ordered the zipper one by mistake could they modify my order and adjust the invoice accordingly. I received an answer saying they couldn’t find my order. I wrote again and was never answered. It’s not worth the price. I purchased the mini crossbody tote and the pouch to go inside. Once the pouch is inside, there is no room to put anything in the pouch. Too small for the price. I’m very much disappointed.
