Homesite InsuranceReviews of homesite.com

I received a notice /bill that a dog lives in the house when there is no dog living in the home. When I called to inquire about their mistake, a customer service rep told me that actually the policy was written incorrectly with the names, and the policy would be cancelled and have to be rewritten. They kept me on hold for over an hour and 20 minutes before being able to speak to a Senior Manager who understood what they were talking about. I paid the annual premium upfront. This was a big mistake, and lesson learned not to use Homesite.

Very Disappointing Experience – Poor Underwriting and Communication I obtained an insurance policy for my rural residential property, which is a private hobby farm. During the initial application and interview, I fully disclosed the nature of the property and its uses. No commercial farming or business activities are conducted on the property. Based on their approval and issuance of the new policy, I canceled my existing insurance coverage. Approximately one week later, I received a cancellation notice citing property characteristics that had already been disclosed during the initial interview. Apparently, this company does not underwrite hobby farm or farm-type properties, which is certainly their prerogative. However, that determination should have been made before issuing a policy and allowing a customer to cancel their existing coverage. This experience demonstrates a serious breakdown in their underwriting and application process. What should have been a straightforward eligibility determination instead created unnecessary inconvenience and left me scrambling to secure replacement coverage. If you own a rural property or hobby farm, I strongly recommend confirming eligibility in writing before trusting this company with your insurance needs.

Thankfully, I never used my insurance for a claim, but just trying tp get a prorated refund for a cancelled unused renters insurance was a nightmare. I had that renters insurance through Geico and as a customer I had no direct contact with Homesite, it always went through Geico and they had to email or call Homesite. I canceled my insurance two months ago, called three times (average call 45 min) and I still have not received my refund. I am grateful I didn't have to use my actual coverage, I would have probably had a nervous breakdown. Do not use Homesite through Geico!

Part of Progressive Insurance.......... All I can say is review your policy. And when you renew review again, cause they like to take out stuff and then not cover or tell you they discontinue covering. The cost continues to rise.Homesite is probably part of a lot of insurance companies out there.I suggest you do your homework very well. I would avoid them, Progressive and Farmer's

Horrible company that will bill you for getting a quote

There was long wait time for customer service, a modest hour of hold time over 3 attempts to reach someone. Once I got a live rep, he mailed the paperwork to complete to get the premium adjusted for a new roof. I sent it in and I'm awaiting resolution. Based on other reviews, I do not expect a good outcome.

I purchased a homeowners policy through Progressive by Homesite, and after only about a month of coverage, Homesite issued a cancellation notice because they determined that the roof was worn, had granule loss, and required full replacement. I am willing to replace the roof, but the process for trying to resolve the issue has been extremely frustrating. I was unable to speak directly with an underwriter, and instead was given an email address to submit information and photos for review. I specifically wanted to know whether a signed roof-replacement contract, scheduled replacement, or completed replacement would be enough to stop the cancellation, but I could not get a clear answer. The cancellation date gave me a very limited amount of time to either replace the roof or find another insurer. That puts the homeowner in a very difficult position, especially when roof replacement can take weeks to schedule and underwriting review itself may take additional time. Based on my experience, I would be very cautious about relying on Progressive by Homesite for homeowners insurance. They are likely to leave you in a bad situation. Look elsewhere.

Husband and I switched to this company In October 2025. They did a bait & switch… Gave us good rates to get us to switch to them & now for policy renewal starting on October 1, 2026 they raised our entire policy 43%!!!! Yes. 43%. We made no changes, & filed no claims. Only an idiot would stay with this company. We will be switching in the next week and the 8 recommendations I made to family/ friends I RETRACTED. I made sure they know not to use this company. You run the numbers every year? Funny. Because i do not know 1 other homeowner whose policy hiked like this.
