Anesthesia Boot Camp
Anesthesia Boot Camp, Preoperative Assessment, 10:35 She is talking about tingling in the ring finger attributing it to cervical issues. She is wrong. Tingling in ring finger means a person has a cubital tunnel syndrome or ulnar nerve entrapment. It is related to elbow position, NOT NECK POSITION. UPD: Thank you for your response below. In this case if she wants to emphasize pre-existing cervical issues in the patient she may refer to numbness and tingling in all 5 fingers, because mentioning 4 and 5 fingers specifically doesn’t make any sense.

Thank you, Elena, for taking the time to share this feedback. You are correct that tingling in the ring and little fingers can be associated with ulnar nerve entrapment, including cubital tunnel syndrome. In this portion of the lecture, however, the symptom was being discussed specifically in the context of neck extension during a preoperative cervical range of motion assessment. Paresthesia into the hand, including the fourth and fifth digits, can also occur with cervical radiculopathy, particularly involving the C8 nerve root, and cervical extension may reproduce radicular symptoms in susceptible patients.
