My husband and I were nervous to come and speak with doctors and nurses with regards to our infertility issues. We had not met with any other reproductive specialists, so we didn't have all the answers to the doctor's questions. We felt humiliated and looked down upon at times during the conversation, and left feeling defeated. IVF was presented as our only option, and while we aren't ready to commit to that, we were presented with a slew of tests "needed" to proceed down that road. This process is pricey, and the nurse and doctor didn't address this with us. It was just assumed that we were going to go down the IVF path. We will move forward with a few more tests that were included in the initial cost, so that we get our money's worth, but I'm very hesitant to return to Conceptions for any additional visits.

The doctor did not read our paperwork before we arrived. He was unprepared for our meeting and our expectation was he would recommend a plan. We therefore decided to go with CCRM instead of Conceptions. We paid $160 for an initial consult and we learned nothing from this visit.

I was a patient at Conceptions for over a year. During that time, I was seen by two different physicians and almost all the IVF/FET nurses across four different locations. You don't really see or communicate with your physician after your initial meeting so I won't comment on that here. In short, the first was awful, the second was tolerable (if you made room for their enormous ego). The ultrasound techs and phlebotomists were all fantastic and, frankly, you see them more than anyone else so that was nice. The nurses are hit or miss and the entire nurse management system is horrendous. For example, my nurse was OOO quite a bit and not only did I not get any advanced notice so I could ask questions ahead of time, but I was then handed off to other nurses who didn't know my case well and one time they even forgot about me and I missed a timely procedure. The billing department is awful. They can't answer questions about procedures since they're not "medical professionals" and the nurses/doctors can't answer questions about billing because they're not experts in it. So there is nobody to connect the dots for you! Also, I had to ask multiple times to get an accurate summary of charges for a cycle so we had documentation of what we were paying for. The lady who did it was completely incompetent and unprofessional. Adding simple billing software would do wonders for this team. Lastly, they never stop selling you. Even after you've paid and are doing cycles, you are inundated with their success rates. They also post newspaper articles around the office of ads they purchased--all to trick patients. Lastly, they are so classy that when you "graduate" they give you a Conceptions-branded chapstick and pen. SERIOUSLY?! Yes, you CAN have success at this clinic but it comes at the price of your sanity. Just know what you're getting yourselves into! Lastly, I communicated all these areas of feedback to the Conceptions team when I was a patient as I don't feel it would be fair to surprise them with all this now.

At the start of my visit I was unaware that the doctor and staff had not received nor reviewed my tests and medical history from my provider. I asked the front desk upon my arrival if they had received my paperwork from my other doctor's office to which they replied "yes." Apparently they misunderstood my question (I found this out after my visit with their doctor and staff), they thought I was referring to my consent and other ppwk. The doctor was nice and helpful but I honestly feel like everything we discussed was completely irrelevant and not applicable to me.. it was a waste of a consult visit as far as time and cost. I feel like had they reviewed my prior testing and diagnosis then the consultation would have been totally different. It wasn't until after my visit with the doctor when the nurse was discussing which tests the doctor recommended, that I realized they didn't know any thing about me because several of the tests were unnecessary due to my situation. I was able to pull up my medical history with recent testing from my regular providers portal and showed the nurse.. she agreed that several of the tests recommend were unnecessary and would have just been a waste of my money. My doctors office apparently mistakenly sent my medical history to the other conceptions location so this was why the office I visited did not have it, but either way, I do not think they should have seen me without reviewing my history especially due to the very recent testing I had already undergone in the weeks prior to this visit. I am disappointed with my experience here. Otherwise, the staff were all nice and the facility was comfortable.

I will finish my consult and then decide if I can support going back to this place. I cringe thinking about having to complete sensitive fertility procedures with the doctor that I met with. -The reception area is completely exposed and my financial business/tests were announced aloud. The receptionist was not clear on explaining the benefits, as this was a referral from my primary insurance. A number of the receptionists were completely unprofessional laughing and talking about what they were doing that weekend, the race they ran, the unpaid balance on that lady’s bill, etc. - I was asked THREE times if my husband was coming. “Ohhh he isn’t coming?” Yes, I have a husband and I imagine these comments would be quite sensitive if someone does not have a partner. -Doctor O’Shaunessey was 15 minutes late for my appt and was unapologetic. It also seemed like I was an inconvenient part of her work day. Seriously! -She did not shake my hand -She rarely looked me in the eye and instead focused on the computer screen with my previous test results. I truly believe this was her first time looking over my file. - She literally just read through my previous levels/ results and told me that I will probably need to take vitamin D. No real conversation about my goals, my concerns, my reservations. -When I asked a question regarding the stats of not being pregnant yet, she stated “You SHOULD have been pregnant by now.” Cold and blunt. No empathy. No bedside manner. -She made it difficult to ask questions because the actual consultation had no substance or depth to it. It was clear that she wouldn’t offer real advice or a meaningful conversation until other bloodwork and tests are done. I do wonder how other patient’s experiences with Dr. O’Shaunessey felt. I hope she is a miracle fertility resource that helps families, because her negative/pompous demeanor very much overshadowed whatever credentials and abilities she may possess.

I expected that I would be given a diagnosis, instead the doctor did not care to find my problem. He just wanted to rush me to do IVF and repeatedly mentioned his success rates for IVF. What I want to know is Conceptions' success rates in finding people's problems to conceive and the plan of action used to fix these problems. IVF drugs do more harm then good, and these doctors do not care about your health. They only care about marketing their deceiving success rates for IVF done in healthy woman who could have conceived naturally have them be given the right care.
