The product seems adequate but Certainteeds customer service is awful. I had my home re-roofed in June. I kept asking for my warranty paperwork and I finally received it in October. When I called Certainteed directly I was dropped, Told to call back or placed on endless hold until I hung up. I will never use their products again.

We are in the same situation as the other owners with this scam company Certainteed. We have very discolored shingles mixed in with normal color shingles giving the took on our home a patchwork look. We went through their elaborate demands to hire a roofer, remove a shingle, mail it in with UPS, send in multiple picture from every roof angle, receipt for the shingles from the builder…. Kept calling and a new excuse or requirement each time. Paid for an aerial roof report…. Filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Missouri. Now they are asking for another shingle to be removed from our roof. We realize that our warranty is a lost cause but in order to help others avoid this scam company we are checking into a billboard on rural I-70 in Missouri with a closeup picture of our patchwork roof and just the words “Certainteed Shingled”. Nothing else required in the warning. I know that even this will not phase this company but I have to try to help others. I may try to enlist our US Senator to try to ban this company from operating in the U.S. Under no circumstances deal with this scam company.

Approximately 40 squares of Certainteed Weatherwood Shingles of 50 yr warranty class 4 were installed January 2007. The install was text book and has held up very well. No issues with the ridge vents, powered vent housings (motor replacements every 4-7 years from attic-no roof disturbance), flashings or gutters. Shingles were subject to several storms in south east Houston from 2007 to current and we did not experience lifted shingles or vents blown off. Not water intrusion. However, I requested a premium product, upgrading to the 50 yr, Class 4 shingle. While I did not calculate value of the warranty over time, I figured the roof I have today would not be at the 19 yr mark. I thought the condition of the roof might look it does at age 35 or 40, not 19 years. Roofers evaluated the roof according to Certainteed’s warranty requirements, removing a sample, which was sent in for evaluation. Fibers are showing from the exposed edges of the shingles, rock is missing and shingles are brittle. The warranty offer from Certainteed would not cover ¼ replacement material. They did offer a discount of 5% if I purchase more Certainteed shingles to replace but of course no additional funds or discounts for labor, underlayment, ridge vents or other components. 19 years into a 50 year life and the shingles are eligible for warranty payment. Photos show rock missing on many shingles, fibers exposed and material drying and cracking. The roof is severely degraded for its age and I am having to budget for replacement much sooner than expected. I can’t imagine this roof lasting another 10 years with so much rock and asphalt material missing. I offered to purchase 50% material from a local installer if Certainteed would provide the remaining 50% shingles, but they refused referring to the original warranty from 2005-2006 date of manufacture, a time period known for class action suits against shingle products. Very little value is added by choosing a product beyond a base product warranty. I can’t imagine a 10 year product looking this warn after 4-1/2 years. Home insurance raises rates greatly increase premiums after a roof becomes 10 years of age, so it may be a better cost measure to replace shingles every ten years, buying the cheapest product one the market in the hope insurance rates will stay low.

We called Certainteed to ask a few questions about the Presidential TL shingles. Dylan answered our call and was rude and unhelpful. We’re now questioning whether we should use Certainteed at all. We’re extremely disappointed!

I purchased their 5-star warranty on a new roof 9 years ago, which covers workmanship issues for 25 years. I got a leak in my roof above my kids' room and filed a claim for it over 2 months ago. I immediately put 2 tarps on my roof to cover the leak and turned off one of the circuits in the room to prevent an electrical fire. The tarps are held on with pavers because correctly applying a tarp with roofing nails would have voided the warranty. Over 2 months, many frustrating phone calls, and unacknowledged emails later, Certainteed is still dragging their feet. I still have the tarps up. I still have the circuit off. Their own inspector came out 2 weeks ago (finally) and verbally confirmed the issue is due to poor workmanship. I've gotten no response since then. They will try to wait you out until you get fed up and pay to fix the issue yourself. Unfortunately, they do seem to be a scam company.

I don't know how they stay in business! I wanted to buy their invisivent hidden vent soffit product. I called all my local suppliers, they don't handle it. So I went on CertainTeed's web site to find a local supplier. it gave me 4 choices, all were the same company in different locations. so I called the only one they had, they told me they don't sell soffit materials at all. They gave me a number of one of their other name companies and they don't handle it. They gave me a number of another company who also doesn't handle their product line but did have a competitors brand. So I tried one last time calling directly in to customers service. They asked for my zip code and proceeded to tell me that they only have access to the same information I received off of there web site! LOL Are you kidding me, this is how a multi billion dollar company operates? WOW how insane! How do you stay in business when someone who wants your product, not only I can't find where to buy it but your own company doesn't know where to buy it! What a disgrace!

My home is only 8 years old and I am losing shingles like crazy. I had a roofing company inspect my roof. They showed me that None of my shingles adhered to each other. They flap freely in the wind, crack and fall off. Does Certainteed care? Ha! They make filling a warranty claim nearly impossible! My attorney says that since they have had class action lawsuits against them for my specific shingle winning a lawsuit is no problem.

I am a roofing cintractor that has been installing roofs for more than 30 years. Certainteed makes average shingles, but the poor customer service and dishonesty is a serious issue. I was scammed out of lmost $2,000.00 promesed by their rep. (Chelsea). And after repeated attenpts they do not honor their word. Gary Madison Va.
