Love it so far the most fun way to learn overall

The courses are well structured, I took the backend path and it is very good and gave me a good grasp of the fundamental concepts for the role.

Wonderful experience for the price you pay. Very guided, has a lot of tutorials and ways to help plus the community on discord is awesome and amazing to try and help. It's taught me a lot and prepared me for job interviews (the industry notwithstanding) highly recommend, especially if you hop on during one of their great discounts!

Review update I have to update my review because even though I still think what I expressed earlier - see below - is true, I have to say I am finding a lot of value in other courses. The SQL course for example has been really helpful. I am increasing the rating to 4 starts because the content quality makes the cost of the course worth it. ----- Boot.dev presents itself as a gamified platform to dive into Backend development concepts. In my experience it was cumbersome, the 'gamification' wasn't really part of the process but just part of the aesthetics and theme. The customer support is non existent - the only time I got a reply was when I asked for a refund - which I never got. The worst experience was with exercises. The assignments weren't very specific and there wasn't good feedback on mistakes. There is an AI assistant that can be used at a cost - mind you this is for the paid account. Overall felt not much different than other platforms but with really poor support. Not worth the expense and because of the poor customer service I have to give it just one star.

Hello! We're really sorry you had that experience. We reply to customer support requests during business hours in the US, so if you sent something over the weekend, that's probably why it took a couple of days to get a response - sorry about that! Hopefully in the future we'll be big enough to support more than a single support person! Regarding the assignments, again, very sorry that was your experience. We make updates daily to the content to try to make them as clear as possible. There's a "report issue" button on every lesson and we take those reports incredibly seriously! Regardless, glad you got your refund, we don't want anyone paying us that isn't having a good experience. > There is an AI assistant that can be used at a cost - mind you this is for the paid account. To be clear, the AI assistant does NOT cost any extra real-world money, there is an "in-game" cost of "baked salmon" to use him (which can be bypassed by just forgo-ing XP) simply because from a pedagogical perspective, using AI to solve all the challenges is bad for your learning, so we dis-incentivize it!
Boot.dev is a frustrating experience. On one hand it's the best learning platform for coding i've ever used. The format is top notch, the quality of the courses is high, I am super motivated to continue my streaks, progressing on my path etc. On the other hand the website is VERY buggy. It's weird because I don't see any complaints of this anywhere else online. I thought it was me, so i switched browsers, deleted all plugins, deleted all browsing data, but it's still the same. Examples: - It can take forever to submit an answer and there is no response back, you have to reload the page for the answer to be submitted. - Sometimes the page just crashes and the content you're learning can no longer be fetched ("we couldn't load this session"). - When you have an interview with "boots" you sometimes have to continually force him to allow you to proceed, even though you've answered interview questions just fine. - CLI submissions are super clanky also, one submission might return an error or nothing happens, the same submission a minute later might get the green light. Overall, I recommend it, but it has a long way to go from a technical perspective to be a nice user experience, which is ironic considering the content being taught. Honestly, if they fixed their bugs it would be 5 stars, easily. **Response to Lane: Thanks very much for replying! I've actually sent an email to hello at boot.dev detailing my experience - it may have gone to spam. I don't think I should need to sign up to a 3rd party service to access support. I'd really appreciate a response via email :) **

Hey Jeremy, founder here! That is... Very strange! We are not seeing these reports elsewhere. Hop into our discord and we can help troubleshoot what might be going on on your setup, as it's most likely network/machine specific
For people wanting to learn the basics of how to code in various different languages and systems this is a really fun way to learn. It’s not too expensive and the way they “gamify” the process makes it really engaging. Their customer service is dreadful though, they never seem to respond to emails. They are virtually impossible to contact, so if you have a problem there is only one option - cancel the subscription. If their customer service was as good as their platform they’d be a 5 star
