BoatUSReviews of boatus.com

Beware do not try and buy a membership unless you are sure as they don't do refunds even next day if you want. I tried to back out of a membership as I got my MMSI number directly from government instead as the people at boatus.com went home that day early and I needed the MMSI right then. So I called back with 15 hours to cancel and had to go through my credit card and dispute it (and won) but it would have been easier for boatus to understand my situation and just cancel it. But strict rules state no refunds I guess. Just wanted to post my storey.

I was a customer for over 30 years until I was stranded in lake Michigan and tow boat us was to busy and to far away in traverse city Michigan and after over a hour calling for help on the radio finely had a local come and tow me in for $500 now with out a business invoice im out $500 because tow boat us refuses to pay me back, good bye tow boat us.

Beware getting covered 3rd party towing in places where they have no service, such as the Bahamas. They will tell you to call for a local tow and ask for reimbursement. Then they will decline to reimburse you, claiming that the tow was actually a salvage. This happened to me. They claimed that my $1,500 tow, which the captain says was a tow, and he charged as a tow, was a salvage. Laughably false. Cheapest "salvage" ever. Read about "tow vs salvage" at BoatLore dot com.

if I could give them negative 5 stars I would gladly do it! been with BoatUS insurance for 24 years, but when I have a major claim they are only going to pay 20% of the bill!!! Imagine wrecking your car and your insurance company of 24 years says this!!! unforgivable. 🤬🤬🤬

I was stuck with an enormous bill for towing my boat!! I got the unlimited gold package so I wouldn’t have towing bills. Definitely not unlimited. It’s actually very limited!! I will be checking out other services!!! I was towed 100 miles and it cost me $1400! Now they want $2600 to tow me 26 miles to get it repaired!!

Great service, great price, they know boats.

Broke down in the middle of the channel in Lake. Lanier took them four hours to get there and then they had three excuses of why not to pay my toe from me being broke down after dark in the middle of lake alone as a female. Thanks towboat for almost creating an emergency only to find out the communication between the dispatcher, and the captain were all complete untrue statements. Do not use get another towboat company. This one will leave you stranded then try not to accept the claim. Had them for 13 years first time I've used them and this is what I got.

When I called in to get a quote for tow I was told it would be a flat rate of $350. Next day my credit card was charged $452. When I called in to dispute I was told there was a 15 minute over charge in addition to the 3% credit card fee. At no point was the 3% discussed and the dispatcher specifically told me he would honor the rate of $350 even though he recognized that the time may go over slightly. The only reason I'm giving a 2 star rating, as opposed to a 1 star rating, is because of the service the captain offered when towing our jet ski. Billing wise/ transparency they deserve a 1 star rating for not standing behind their quote. I'll never use them again unless they are my last option.
