About barnowl.tech

Barn Owl helps people keep an eye on the places that matter most, even when those places sit far from the nearest power line or WiFi signal. We build cellular, solar-powered security and monitoring cameras designed for the real conditions of rural life: open pasture, remote gates, jobsites, water tanks, barns, cabins, and county infrastructure where traditional cameras simply cannot reach.Founded in 2017 and based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Barn Owl is a veteran-owned company started by people who understand the problem firsthand. Our cameras arrive ready to work out of the box, with a pre-installed SIM, an included solar panel, and a connection to all major and rural carriers, so there is no WiFi to configure and no batteries to swap. Setup takes about five minutes. After that, you can check in from your phone anytime, receive AI-powered alerts that tell the difference between a person, a vehicle, and an animal, and even livestream what is happening in real time.We know that a camera is only as good as the service behind it, which is why our data plans are contract-free and start at just $7 per month. No activation fees, no surprises, and the freedom to pause seasonally when you do not need coverage. Every plan is backed by our US-based support team and Barn Owl Care, which covers theft, damage, and upgrades for the life of your plan.Ranchers use Barn Owl to watch calving pens and water troughs without the daily drive. Farmers monitor equipment and outbuildings. Contractors guard jobsites against theft. Counties, public works departments, and land managers keep watch over remote assets. Cabin owners and homesteaders gain peace of mind when they are away.We stand behind everything we ship with a 45-day risk-free guarantee and a 2-year hardware warranty. We are proud to have earned the trust of thousands of customers across rural America, along with recognition as a leading farm and ranch camera company.Your land. Your property. Your peace of mind. That is what w

Unfortunately had a pretty bad…

Unfortunately had a pretty bad experience with the team at Barn Owl. They had advertised a promotion in their website that, when you put it in the cart or attempted to select the promotion it would default to standard pricing. I contacted the team, as I had done quite a bit of research before selecting them as a potential supplier. Upon contact, the CSR I spoke with refused to honor the advertised pricing, even after I provided the exact wording reflecting the discount. After multiple back and forth on that same phone conversation, he defaulted to “well, I can give you a 20% discount, which was still $90 over the promotion offered. He finally said he would get with his manager, as he was seeing the promotional wording, and he would call back within an hour. As of yet I STILL have not heard back. As a customer service manager of over 40 years, this was a very poor reflection on the company as a whole, as unfortunate as it is. Given this experience, I can say that while their product appears to be good, the customer service backing the company has a serious deficit in their training system, and will possibly lose a lot more customers in the future. I won’t say to not purchase their product, but expect a poor CE experience if any issues arise.

Thank you for the detailed writeup, and I'm sorry for the frustration. I'm Steve, and I lead the customer experience team at Barn Owl. You're right that the pricing display is confusing. That's on us. I've flagged it to our marketing team and the display is being updated. You were also told you'd get a callback within the hour, and that call never came. No excuse for that, and I'm addressing it with the team. Either way, thank you for holding us to a high standard. You gave us a clear look at two things we needed to fix. — Steve, Director of CX @ Barn Owl
