Extreme Privacy Breach & Padded Billing—Avoid
If you are looking for a moving company that values honesty, consumer privacy, and professional communication, do not hire Athens Moving Experts. My recent experience with them involved padded billing, a severe privacy breach, and an invasive text group chat. After the branch manager arrogantly refused a billing correction via email, I filed a formal complaint with the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC). Within 24 hours of learning about the state investigation, the company panicked. Instead of using proper corporate channels, they created an unauthorized text group chat containing my personal number, my girlfriend's number (her # was only provided since my things was in her storage unit & she had to open the unit for them), the crew, and the official Athens corporate business line. They used this chat to corner us, use intimidating language, and pressure us into accepting an informal refund to make the state complaint disappear. Following this severe boundary violation, the office forced through a partial refund of $205.35 to my card to save face. They claim they "welcome any investigation," but their actions speak louder than words. I am keeping the text group chat intact as legal evidence, and my state complaint remains fully active. If you hold this company accountable to basic standards, they will misuse your personal data to text-harass you and your family off-the-books. Avoid them entirely.
