Helpful and insightful!
I was invited to the forum by my colleague, Ivy, who works closely with Executive Creators' team and Jordan especially. I only have very basic editing skills, but I am aware of how nodes work through After Effects (something I learned during college) so that part in the first color grading session was surprising yet refreshing to see. On that note, it only makes sense to me that that's how color grading works on a larger scale—I've always wondered how post prod would make it since the output would always look so seamless. Especially when it came down to the skin tones. That part of the session was honestly mind blowing to me. Truthfully, it got intimidating when I was left as the only non-video editor in the group but everyone was so welcoming regardless of what and where I would use the things I learned. There were open discussions in the beginning of the session where Jonathan and Jordan asked us how we were able to utilize the lessons from the previous week, and I honestly didn't have an answer that relates back to video editing. It was all personal use which was product photography (mainly in food). Jonathan shared a bunch of helpful tips that I could definitely use in the future, one of which was Resolve having an option to color grade photos—something I am very much open to explore when I'm able enough. Last thing I would suggest (but I do think I was not able to attend the last session so it might just be an assumption) is that maybe we could have a session on how we'd be able to tell if the color is imbalanced or not. I know we somehow touched base on that on the first session where the graph can help tell you which color overpowers the whole frame, but maybe it would also help if we have a way to discern for ourselves especially trying to gauge whether the grading is near or close enough to real life. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I really enjoyed the session (and a half) with the Executive Creators and with Jonathan. Appreciate the time and effort. Godspeed!
