Slow Interface, Does Not Teach Children
Carnegie Learning is a poorly created curriculum that has inconsistent information, causing confusion, and incorrect information. The website has errors such as inaccurate grammar (on English courses) including the offline notification "You seems to be Offline!" with the options "Back to Bookshelf?" and "No". For the Math course, they use a program called "Mathia", which uses AI to teach children. It fails to prompt students to do work on paper because it has a calculator built into the answer box, meaning if it asks you for the square root of a number, say 5, you can type in "sqrt(5)" and it will tell you that you got it right (I tested this myself). This removes all thinking from the students, making it more of a "do you know how to tell a computer to do your work" rather than an educational tool. On top of depriving students thinking and inaccurate data, the program takes over 30 seconds to load on a computer with an AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor and 32Gb of RAM, and on the school-provided Chromebooks, this can be upwards of 2 minutes. This, combined with the fact that to get to your class dashboard, you must sign in, choose a class, and then choose your assignment, then each assignment has anywhere from 3 to upwards of 6 for ELA and upwards of 20 on Math during "Mastery" workspaces. A negative score would be appropriate for this application.
