Trivia Quiz Scamming Strategy
This platform operates under the name Numbase, a company that manages multiple mobile applications, including: • 100 Seconds • Numplay • Play&Win • And several other similar apps These apps appear to be designed primarily for generating revenue rather than providing legitimate gameplay or fair reward systems. Breakdown of the “100 Seconds” App In the 100 Seconds app, users are required to purchase chances to play using Apple Pay or Google Play. There are two main payment options: • A renewable subscription • A one-time purchase (e.g., $4.99 for 20 tickets, each ticket allowing you to answer 10 questions) The app promises that if you answer 10 out of 10 questions correctly, you win $100 instantly. However, based on personal experience: • I spent over $29 purchasing extra chances trying to win. • I attempted to withdraw any potential winnings via PayPal, but: • There is no withdrawal history or tracking section in the app. • After waiting over 3 months, no payment was received. • I sent over 8 emails to the support team with no response. How the App’s System Manipulates Outcomes The app uses strategic difficulty manipulation to increase spending and reduce winning odds: • If you answer a question incorrectly early on, the rest of the questions become very easy (e.g., "What’s 1+1?"). • If you answer the first few questions correctly, the app suddenly gives you a complex "ordering" question (e.g., "Arrange these albums from oldest to newest"), with only 10 seconds to respond. These ordering questions are intentionally difficult: • They are often outdated (e.g., ordering based on population data from 2012 or 2015). • Even if your answer is correct according to 2025 data, it may be marked incorrect because the app uses old stored answers. To make it worse: • Sometimes the timer starts at 8 seconds instead of 10, especially during ordering questions. • The questions are long and complex, making it nearly impossible to read and answer within the limited time. Question Quality and Translation Issues The questions are also poorly constructed, particularly in translated versions: • In the French version, I was asked to identify car brands, and the app translated "Ford" as "Gué" using Google Translate, which is clearly incorrect and confusing. Overall Observations and Concerns • No real payments are made – even if you "win" • Questions are manipulated to make you lose, especially near the end • No contact or transparency – no support responses or visible company activity • The quiz design appears to mimic gambling strategies to keep users spending • No question updates – outdated data is used to validate answers • The platform operates in multiple countries, but payouts are supposedly managed by local carriers like Ooredoo, not Numbase itself • This raises further concerns about accountability Final Warning If you encounter trivia apps (especially those with 10-question formats involving ordering challenges), avoid them. These apps appear to be part of a larger scam operation disguised as quiz games. I have documented the full report on this behavior and can confirm that the platform and its operations are highly questionable, if not outright fraudulent.
